people feel appreciation in currency is good..... when it is not so.... see in thailand many industries got losses, some closed down, because currency gained 20% to USD ofcourse coupled with other factors....

even UK industries shall be facing problems for their exports as their costs increase exorbitantly in USD... so competitiveness in international market is hammered.... but they are not affected much because all currencies have appreciated against USD and all country costs have increased..... 😊

If you wanna know what cheap really means, check out India! hehe..you get the actual designer levis in india for half the price-yes, the REAL levis! UK and US have very similar prices, in some areas UK is more expensie and some US! Like designer brands in US like aeropostale and abercrombie is muchh cheaper than the brands we have here! but some of the small things like sweeties and fruit loops(my personal fav.:P) are a lil more expensive there. but yeah, it is mainly cheaper in US but not by a huge margin that sum1 actually goes to the extent of being like UK is expensive..😛just my opinion..

Let's see . The airfare to London sometimes is $99 each way but taxes can be more then $350 on top of that😕. In fact flying via London to anywhere can be more expensive then flying American carrier direct or via other european hubs. Eating out is terribly expensive, so are cabs and underground and the thing I hate is you have to pay for ketchup when you get fries (or chips) at fast food places.

Yes i meant big items generally , quite a bit of price differnce, of course small items you will find same standard prices.

Apparently petrol for example they dont pay that much tax on it, so compared to our fuel prices theres is cheaper, some teacher told us tht.

Yes here in UK, we are used to prices, so yes for us as we are ccustmed to it, we just get on with it n pay. India of course cheap = cheap labour in some places. Also u have to take into account we get more rupees for our money. 😳

yeah we VAT everything lolsss😆

UK is an ineffeciently run country sitting on our Kohinoor under its a** and making that economy look great... ACtually its in shambles... US on the other hand is a progressive country...so US is cheaper than UK by all means....

From my experience UK pound definitely has a lot more weight. Things in UK tend to be a lot more expensive too. I was in London earlier this year and it put a big hole in my wallet. I avoided buying many things because it just felt overwhelmingly expensive.

The Euro is even more weightier,my sister was in France the year before and when you start paying two dollars for a coke it says something.

In my personal opinion McDonalds is a good standard to test exchange rate and cost of living globally.

However, the bottom line is the dollar is getting weaker.

With Nov 08 not far from the horizon I do sense a fluctuation of the economy. Depending on the outcome of Nov 08 we will know by sometime in 09 if the dollar will keep falling or consolidate its position.

No doubt Pound is stonger then dollar but it rulez I don't think so. Good views All. Anyways

Does the Pound Vs Dollar should be concern to common man?

Earnings should be, specially if both equates to same Rupee value per pay check 😆 😆

Good point Raj ..But earnings will never be the same because the tax rate in UK is like whopping 40%..😕 Sure they get "free" national health care. Also VAT is 17% on retail stuff unlike state sales tax in USA which can be zero to 9%. I think someone also mentioned gas prices more then twice of what we pay .
