England finished with 146-9
A superb effort from Sri Lanka to restrict England to a below par score. 12 overs of spin which produced 85 runs and 5 wickets. Barring Phil Salt, none of the batters found the rhythm and timing to build their innings. Add to that Sri Lanka were superb in the field with their catches and an excellent run out to dismiss Banton in the 8th over have all played their part in keeping the run-flow in check. Sri Lanka played a 3-match T20I series against England at this venue just a couple of weeks ago which they lost 3-0, but look who have learned their lessons? Just 2 double-digit scores in the top 5 and 4 of those wickets fell to spin. Madushanka was excellent in the powerplay and he came back to bowl the penultimate over to collect his rewards - a couple of wickets. Theekshana and Wellalage are the pick of the bowlers and the duo used their variations smartly to restrain the big hits through the middle overs. This should be comfortable chase for the hosts.
Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara are at the crease. Pathum Nissanka is on strike. Jofra Archer will open the attack
Welcome back! Archer to kickstart proceedings with the ball for England. One slip in place. Off we go...
SL to get a good start: The bowlers have done an exceptional job and it's up to the batters to chase down 146. Expect the home nation to reach 40 for 1 at the end of the batting PP
Dunith Wellalage - First of all, wicket was a bit slow. So I backed myself to bowl wicket-to-wicket. I read the wicket, we played this England side before the WC and I knew about their batting. It's a bit slow (on the surface), so I wanted to vary my pace. Definitely, hopefully we can chase this target.
Welcome back!

Ashwini: "Sri Lanka might look to finish this game before 20 overs, keeping NRR, possible future washouts, and the weather forecast later in the tournament in mind." NRR could be less relevant already with the shared points between NZ and Pakistan. Just getting the win could be a huge step towards the semis
Faizan Ali : "unpopular opinion: this is very much defendable on this pitch !!" I don't disagree... but England have got to bowl well, especially in the powerplay. Archer has the new ball

Will Jacks to Dunith Wellalage, out Caught by Harry Brook!! Wicket number 3 for Will Jacks. The teasing offbreak on leg stump, Wellalage wanted to slam it down the ground and got the timing horribly wrong. Right off the thick inside half and offered catching practice to the fielder backtracking at mid-on. Brook is a tall man and he is not going to miss that.
