Acc. to some articles. Kjo invested in not just movies under Dharma but as silent partner to many more movies which he thought would bring in money.
For e.g. He invested in Bombay Velvet as silent partner. Already FOX was shelling out lot of cash, He thought the movie even becomes break even he will get his returns easily. So despite the movie going overbudget, he invested in the movie thinking it will be atleast an average fare at boxoffice. But who would have thought the movie made on magnum 100+ Cr. would struggle to get even 20% occupancy right from the day one. Then disasters like Ungli, Brothers & Shandaar where he spent lavishly much more than required just to get one or two shot was ultimately going to make him bankrupt. For Bahubaali he was just presenter and has hindi theatrical rights not satellite or overseas. Bahubaali overseas rights are still with the producers who are selling region wise through various festivals like it will be soon released in Germany.During Bahubaali he bought hindi theatrical rights for ard. 10 Cr. that too in profit sharing (70/30) basis. He was so afraid that the movie wont do more than 10 Cr. So anything the movie made above 10 Cr. nett. will be shared as 70 - 30, Dharma getting only 30%..So, here too Dharma didn't made much, as most of the profit was taken by original producers.Another major investment Dharma made silently is he has this time bought Bahubaali the conclusion full hindi rights with no profit sharing. He has paid hefty 50 Cr. for that in advance to the original producers.Dharma currently dont have any good prospective movies lined up.His recent failures has scared the distributors to buy his movies at any high price, while he still insists on making candyfloss glossy movies with foreign locales which is costly.
