They thought I was a kaccha limboo

Apara Mehta's ouster from Jjhoom India in this week's episode may come as a shock to viewers of the SaharaOne show, but the actress is not surprised to be the first participant to exit from the reality drama.

"I expected it," says Apara who notched the highest score last week along with her partner —- Parthiv Gohil who has rendered the Yun Shabnami track in Saawariya.

Expected blow

"Had I not been out, I would have been taken aback. Isn't this what reality shows are all about? Kick out the person who is the best because that person is a threat. Parthiv, too, is so talented and good. Our ouster is to grab eyeballs." She adds, "They get away with the excuse that the audience has voted them out. Reality shows are a farce and people should stop voting for such programmes. Everything boils down to shock value."

The outspoken Apara adds that the show has become a singer versus singer drama. "Nobody cares for the contestants, it is who can lobby more. There were some singers who went off track despite being professional playback singers!"
There was a furore at the Jjhoom shoot on Tuesday night at Classic Studios, Mira Road, when the results were declared.

The judges (Mahesh Bhatt, Shabana Azmi and Anandji) were also shocked by the verdict. In the last episode, Apara sang Beedi Jalaile and had the judges in raptures. Azmi gave her a standing ovation and even did a jig to the encore while Bhatt whistled specially for her. In the second episode she rendered the track Huzoor-e-ala from Page 3. Adds Apara, "I gave my best shot as I knew it was also my last. "

Surprise package

Apara's first brush with reality shows has left a bitter taste in the mouth. "They thought I was a kaccha limboo. But I proved that age and physical appearances don't matter when it comes to singing. My performance surprised everyone."
Produced by the Optimystix duo of Vipul D Shah and Sanjiv Sharma, Jhhoom has a professional singer teamed with an actor whom he has to groom to sing.
