I think it was a gradual shedding of light on the issue..first people got introduced to gay people, and because it was funny comedic they didnt reject it altogether like the govt of present is doing and then Kjo started makng films depicting gays in realistic ways after the people had gotten used to the idea.
Its the same route he followed for himself. He laughed at himself, didnt come out openly but didnt hide it either, and now when everyone is used to the idea, he is actually spelling it out. it might be organic what he did, but its bloody smart in a country where tolerance levels are not the same for every individual or part of country. Its not a place where you can rush headlong into introducing change.
