So, I have been mad at this show at times and I haven't been mad at it the rest of time. But what's remained constant throughout is my love for this show. I have stayed with it through its thick and thin and I know I'm in till the end of it and even after that. I talk about it like its a person and that itself is a testimony to that fact. There's one thing I don't like as much about it though, the need to discuss, talk rant. Its almost as if you can't fully concentrate on any task unless you have it all off your chest. 😳
I was already anticipating a good episode after the last one but not to this magnitude. While the spoiler pictures of Cas and Rowena gave it away to me that its probably Lucifer in the meatsuit and not Cas himself, I didn't expect it to be real. I dismissed it as a dream or a hallucination. S11 has been delivering consistent episodes right from the start and its nice that this season seems to be heading on a positive note. I, very obvious by now, loved the episode. Plot, characters, scenes, transitions, dialogues, pace, direction, everything was in its proper place and that made one great show.
I found the characters in this episode to be so much in tune with themselves than ever. There was Sam being the smart, determined and brave Sam Winchester that he is. There was Dean essentially being the brother that he is. And then there was Cas who went back to being this self-sacrificing hero that he originally was. Admittedly, my emotions were all over the place during the episode and still are a bit, I think. Not complaining though, its how I like to feel about Supernatural. Its episodes like these that you want to watch and look forward to more, keeping aside all the collateral damage it does to your sobriety and emotions.
What do I talk about the episode? Whether its the slice-cutting intensity that Sam-Lucifer scenes in the cage offer or the second hand embarrassment you feel when the devil makes a bit of sense to you. Whether its the ludicrous humour of Sam's voice mail or the facetious interactions between Dean and Crowley. Whether its Cas checking in on Dean or the alarmed Dean when he doesn't find his little brother home. Whether its the introspective conversation between Ambriel and Cas or the unpredictability and danger the Darkness return's brings. Whether its the scenes between Crowley and Rowena that take turns to be sassy once and emotionally conflicted the next or the immense faith that Sam shows in his family and friends. Whether its Dean's innate protective mechanism that sets to motion when Sam is in danger or whether its Cas's intuitive nature to protect his friends first and offer himself up as a bait to cut the deal. There's not one dull moment and you're mentally engaged and emotionally invested all along.
This episode like many other just establishes the fact yet again that Supernatural has a brilliant cast to their credit. We all know what Jensen and Jared are capable of but I'll take this moment to acknowledge Misha's acting skills. His impersonation of Mark and his mannerisms were so spot on! Definitely going down to be one of the best alter-character version on the show ever.
All in all, a great show this episode! 👏
