I have very little knowledge of Ramayan...n hence I posed this question.
Was Ravan really invited to Ma Sita's Swamvar bcoz...I always thought Ravan's kidnapping was due to the Shurpanakha incident?

Someone please clarify.

On a side note...if I am not wrong...the writer of this show is Ananth Neelkanth...who is well-known for his novels on the 'villains' of the epics. I am surprised he is writing things closer to the epic as we know it...and Ravan is being shown as arrogant here...

Heya Amrita... nice to see u here! 😳
As far as Raavan coming to the swayamwar, it is mainly a part of South Indian versions. This is what I have read and understood from the members here... This scenario ain't a part of the epic...

Thanks 😊
I too had never heard of it...
But I guess they are kind of building up a reason for Ravan to kidnap Ma Sita later...
Maybe he will feel insulted at her Swamvar n take revenge later...

Reminds me of another Swamvar...🤔
Nevermind...

according valmiki ramayana ravana attended swyamvar and felt humilated because he couldn't lift the bow so he goes back to lanka n he felt that he couldn't please lord shiva so according to few scholars he sacrificed his head to shiva hence he has 9 heads
according to others he tries to sacrifice his life but lord shiva restores him n proving that he was the greatest devotee adding fuel to his ego

some of the important things about ravana is

1) he is considered one of the greatest scholars hence lord ram calls ravana himself to set the time for the war in which lord ram kills him

2)once parvathi accused lord shiva of living in himalaya and she did not have a proper home hence lord shiva borrowed gold from kubera and built lanka and they invited ravana to perform gruhapravesham after all the rituals ravana asks lanka as his dakshina and thats how he gets to become the king of lanka (this story is told in shiva purana)

Hai
I am new hear..
I am fan of ramayan..
Here they are potrating the charecters their values very nicely...

All are excellent actors...hatsoff to them specially leads

Coming to ur question..as per valmiki ramayan...

Yes ravan attends swayamvar and felt insulted and leave but he thinks insulted by lord siva..nothing to do with sita or family...

Then sita apaharan was due to revenge for surpanaka bcz she thinks that ram and laxman rejected her and her beauty bcz of sita and ravan has the habit of taking ladies away

Thanks to all for commenting...😊
Now I am slightly confused...As per some this story is there in Valmiki's Ramayan while as per others it is not there in the epic but part of folklores...
Although I dont have much knowledge in Ramayan...I have decent knowledge about Mahabharat and my exprerience tells me that many stories which are created later in folktales are often passed off as 'part of the original epic'...in fact sometimes we actually believe it is part of it...although it's not.
There are many such instances in Mahabharat...so that made me curious here as well...

Thanks all for sharing your valuable knowledge...😊
Looking forward to some more views...

Amrita, now u have to make up some time and go through the distortions thread here... U ll know what and why I mean so.. 😆
As far as I recall from discussions in that thread, Valmiki Ramayan does not have a swayamwar at all... Trust me, when I came to know this, I was surprised...swayamwar part is in Ramcharitramanas by Tulsidas... and other later versions...

Wow...that is surprising!!
Thanks for sharing Anu...
My prior experience in Mahabharat has taught me not to believe any fact regarding the epics unless I see with my own eyes wat is written in the epic...😆
You surely know wat I mean by that...😉

So all these Swamvar stories are later additions...I would really like to see some citations...
Bcoz discussions with citations makes things very clear.
