Episode begins with various clips of Kolkata being shown, the Howrah bridge, Victoria Memorial, the trams, Kalighat and so on. A typical zamindar style house is shown and a man clad traditionally in dhoti/kurta goes to the Puja Pandal adjoining the house. He's the patriarch of the Thakur Bari and its Durga Puja time. At the pandal all are awaiting the traditional unveiling of the goddess. A little boy is sent running to call the other members of the family. He runs first to an old lady, calls her Thakuma( Bengali for grandmom) and tells her that they have all been summoned to the pandal. She calls out 'Bouma', Bong for daughter in law and another lady is shown, bedecked like the zamindar's wife. She's putting sindoor and upset that its never fallen and smeared her nose as its a traditional Bengali belief that only when the sindoor is smeared does it mean the undying love of her husband. She's waiting for her daughter Raktima to get dressed. Another young girl is shown, also decking up but with a petulant look on her face. At the pandal a group of boys are discussing the arrival of the most beautiful girl they have seen, One of the boys who is an outsider is curious and when he sees Raktima, laughs at the others for thinking her to be beautiful. But his friends tell him that the beauty they were speaking of was not her, but her sister Kangna.
A long introduction sequence follows and as the goddess Durga's face is unveiled, the main heroine's face is revealed. As she makes her way through the pandal all the youths pretend to faint and she laughs. She comes to her father, the patriarchal type, and he asks her what took so long. She tells him that she was shopping for her mother. The aarti follows and Kangna prays that this year she may get the love of her mother.
Raktima is complaining to her mother and Kangna comes and gives her mother the sari she's chosen for her, but her mother cruelly throws it aside to the Maasi standing by her and leaves the room. The father sees this but tells Kangna not to take it to heart and tells her to dance for the Thakurbari cultural programme. She refuses but he cajoles her into agreeing.
The programme begins and there is a rather bad bharat natyam performance followed by Raktima dancing to " Nimbooda". Raktima's mother is thrilled to bits and cheers for her daughter. This is followed by Kangna's performance to' Silsila hai chaahat ka' from Devdas. She's adjudged the winner and both Raktima and her mother are furious.
Back home Raktima accuses Kangna of always having stolen her share of the limelight right from childhood and in a fit of jealousy breaks the trophy Kangana had received. The father sees this and is furious with Raktima but then the mother arrives and says that Kangna has always stolen what was rightfully Raktima's and curses Kangana that her moonlike beauty will be eclipsed one day. Episode ends.
