North Indian Musics Vs South indian music - Page 3

I am a tamilian but not much knowledge of south songs as much as some of the members here.I enjoyed reading this topic. 👏

Too generalised statements. In the geographical south itself there are certain regions like Dharwad etc where Hindustani music is not just popular but many prominent Hindustani classical singers hail from these places.

Carnatic music is the classical music for the cultural south. Hinssutani Classical music is the classical music for geographical indian (north , west ,central, east). Also this is the classical music system for Pakistan , Bangladesh ,Nepal.

^^ Yes I agree.. They were the same MDs.. But I am here just trying to put the view that music composed in South have been accepted in North and vice versa.. Just because this thread is a comparison between the music in North and South, I wanted to put forth the point that there is not much difference 😳

yes,u r right Anu.The music is certainly similar and the songs that u've pointed out became popular both in the north and South.In fact songs of Sapnay,Roja ,Bombay,Sadma,Saathiya etc have been supehits in Hindi and Tamil.And L-P have also composed for a tamil movie- Uyire Unakkaga which ahd many famous hits(paneeril nanaintha pookal mella sirikka ) and many more.Similarly Salil's chowdhary famous hit 'Na jiya laage na' was also used in a tamil movie by Salilda.Similarly songs of Harris Jeyaraj(Zara zara behakta hai),Vidyasagar(songs from hulchul) have become popular in Hindi and Tamil.I think isme music ki jeet hai.It shows that good music is accepted by ppl everywhere ,north/south.

......and I didn't know this forum had so many south Indians too.We shld start a thread on Tamil & Carnatic music,as u've said..I'd certainly join in 😊

By the way please don't forget, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra, Goa, alongwith Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Konkani, Tulu also constitute South India😉

Yes. I am a Malayali, namesake Keralite but still 😆😆. I remember long ago when I heard some singer on TV and I requested to switch off the irritating noise only to realize that there were some senior friends of my uncle sitting in the living room discussing 'chembai sangeetolsavam' 😳 It was so embarrasing. I had no clue about it back then and not much even now.

yes,certainly..Since I am tamilian, my knowledge is limited to influence of hindi songs on tamil songs and vice versa.Any posts by anyone on the influence of kannda/telugu/malayalam/tulu/konkani music on Hindi songs is most welcome.Wld love to read anything related to this 😊
