For long now talks of a film narrating poet Sahir Ludhianvi and author Amrita Pritam have been doing the rounds. In December 2015, there was buzz that producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali was to sign Priyanka Chopra for the role of Amrita Pritam after signing Irrfan Khan to play Sahir. The filmmaker was apparently quite impressed with the Exotic babe after working with her in his last blockbuster- Bajirao Mastani which also starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.
A source close to the development was quoted saying, "Since Priyanka got along very well with Gustakhiyan producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, reports of her playing Amrita Pritam were taken to be authentic. But the truth is, Priyanka is not doing Gustakhiyan."
As per the latest reports, SLB wants his favouriteDeepika to essay the role of Amrita Pritam in Gustakhiyan. The source added saying, "After Piku where they played a tentative couple, Irrfan and Deepika would get a chance to do a full-fledged romantic film. It would be a terrific follow-up. On the other hand, Irrfan and Priyanka have only done Saat Khoon Maaf together which was a dud at the box office."
