According to manusmrti, Brahma's one day is divided into 14 eras and in each era there will be different manu, gods and Indra. So all these are designation names like Assistant prof, associate Prof and Prof. Person changes but the position remains same at the end of each era.

The 14 Indras[edit]

Each Manu rules during an eon called a Manvantara. 14 Manvantaras make up a Kalpa, a period corresponding to a day in the life of Brahma. Every Manvantara has 1 Indra that means with every Kalpa 14 Indras changes. Thae Markandye Rishi is said to have a complete age of one Kalpa and in a Puran on his name called "Markandey Puran" the exact age corresponding to the human age or solar year is described in details. The following list is according to Vishnu Purana 3.1-2):^[30]

The present, seventh Manvantara - the interval of Vaivasvata Manu[edit]

Kashyapa, Atri, Vashista, Vishvamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni, Bharadvaja.^[9] In the Vaivasvata-manvantara, He (Avatara) is named Vamana

The seventh Manu, who is the son of Vivasvan, is known as Sraddhadeva. He has ten sons, named Iksvaku, Nabhaga, Dhrsta, Saryati, Narisyanta, Dista, Tarusa, Prsadhra and Vasuman. In this manvantara, or reign of Manu, among the demigods are the Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, Visvedevas, Maruts, Asvini-kumaras and Rbhus. The king of heaven, Indra, is known as Purandara, and the seven sages are known as Kashyap, Atri, Vashista, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni and Bharadwaj. During this period of Manu, Vishnu appears from the womb of Aditi in his incarnation as the son of Kashyap.
