Waiting L
"Good morning" Nachiket found Ragini staring at him when he woke up. How could the night be over already? He had just fallen asleep, like an hour back probably, with her secured in his arms. He could still smell the lavender of her conditioner; he could still feel her palm resting on his chest. Just the memory of her snuggling closer to him when he switched off the lights, brought a smile on his face. He gently brushed the hair off her face and that is when he noticed the scowl.
"Kya hua?" he asked.
"Tum mujhe chodke kyu gae?"
"Tumne roka kyu nahi?"
"Tumhe jana nahi chahiye tha,"
"Tumhe rok lena chahiye tha,"
"Tumhe khud hi ruk jana chahiye tha,"
Nachiket smiled, "Ragini.. Subah subah ladai karni h?"
Ragini didn't say anything for a long time, "Ye do din.. mujhe laga tum kabhi wapis nahi aaoge"
"Aise kaise nahi aata.. Tum yahan pe ho to main kahin aur kaise reh sakta hoon," His voice, still rough from the sleep, was music to Ragini's ears. And his words were the perfect lyrics. She couldn't help but smile. They stared at each other for a long time. Neither of them uttered a single word. The conversation they had had a minute back was long forgotten. Unconsciously, they had leaned in, their faces were inches apart and that is when the morning alarm went off. Nachiket took off to the bathroom hurriedly and Ragini struggled with the phone to turn off the alarm. Both of them were unaware of the fact that the other had leaned in too. Ragini chided herself for appearing desperate when she saw Nachiket rushing to the washroom. And Nachiket was left wondering why he was so scared of kissing her, when it wouldn't be the first time that he would be doing so.
Few Hours Later,
"Red or black?" Nachiket held up two ties for Ragini to look at and choose.
"Kahan ja rahe ho?"
"Tumhi ne kaha ki apartment ke lie kuch samaan lene jana h. So, I'm taking you,"
"Shopping karne jana h. Itna sajne sawarne ki kya jaroorat h," she opened his cupboard and brought back a shirt to him, "Wear this,"
"Firse Blue?"
"Pehn lo Nachiket. Blue mein tum thode se young lagte ho," Ragini bit her lower lip to stop herself from smiling.
"Excuse me?" Nachiket faked offence. Ragini smiled but didn't bother saying anything; instead she turned him around and removed his blazer. "Mujhe chodo..apne aap ko dekho... Ye kya apne baalon ko baandhke rakhti ho tum buddhi amma ki tarah.. Khule kyu nahi chodti inko,"
She glared at him. She couldn't believe he was calling her old. And here she was day-dreaming of... she started speaking before the voice in her head could finish the sentence. "Acha theek h. I'll get rid of the bun. You wear this shirt," He smirked. He was going to wear the shirt anyway. She turned to look into the mirror and started removing the pins from her hair. Through the mirror, she saw him unbuttoning his shirt and wearing the blue one. He does look younger in blue, Ragini admitted to herself. She looked down before he could notice her smile.
The shopping took longer than expected and by the time both of them went to bed, they were dead tired. When Nachiket came out of the washroom after brushing his teeth, he found Ragini already asleep. He lied down under the sheets and was going to switch off the lights when Ragini spoke,
"Bathroom ki light off kari?"
"Haan," He looked at her, her eyes were still closed and she was half asleep.
"Towel wapis rakhkar aae?"
"Nahi. Rakh aata hu. Tum so jao," he started to get up but then she stopped him.
"Bed par rakha h?" she opened her eyes a bit.
"Nahi. Table par h,"
"Rehne do fir. Main subah utha lungi," she closed her eyes again, letting sleep take over.
He was disappointed that she wasn't sleeping in his arms tonight. She was close but still, he wanted her closer. He had switched off the lights already and she hadn't moved an inch. She must have been extremely tired. Ab kya karu? He looked around and saw the book that he was reading yesterday, placed on the side table. Slowly, he pushed the book so that it fell on the floor with a thud. And that sound, awoke Ragini.
"Kya hua? Ye awaaz kaisi thi?" she was scared.
"Kya awaaz? Koi awaaz nahi aai Ragini," he was feeling bad for rousing her up, but then he rationalised it by telling himself that she would sleep better in his arms.
"Abhi aai mujhe awaaz Nachiket. Kuch gira jaise," she was looking around. With only the table lamp illuminating the room, she couldn't see much.
"Kuch nahi gira. Come here. Sleep. Main hoon yahan pe," His arm was stretched and she took it gratefully. And there she was, sleeping in his arms, snuggled closer to him, just like he wanted. Placing a small kiss on her forehead, and adjusting the blanket over them, he fell asleep with a smile on his face.
Morning,
Nothing could prepare either Nachiket or Ragini for the morning. The sleeping position had been reversed now. While Nachiket's head lay on Ragini's chest with his arm casually draped over her waist, Ragini's hand was in his hair. The blanket was barely covering Ragini's feet and the chill of the morning air roused her from her sleep. And before she could change her mind, Ragini placed a kiss on his cheek. She remained in the same position for some time, relishing the moment. There were still a few minutes left for the alarm to go off. She adjusted his head back on his pillow and turned off the alarm, letting him sleep longer. She combed his hair with her fingers and wondered if he would wake up if she kissed him. She wanted to close his open mouth with a kiss. It was so tempting. Finally, she settled for his cheek again. Not sure why, though.

"Ragini, my shaver isn't working. Can you please give me the other one?" Nachiket called from the washroom.
Ragini brought him his shaver, "Why are you shaving?" She seemed to inspect his 2 day old stubble from the mirror.
"Kyu? Main tumhe clean-shaved acha nahi lagta?" He questioned, looking at her in the mirror. She saw the naughty glint in his eyes, and she was sure the butterflies in her stomach were having a feast. She couldn't help but smile at him.
"Clean-shaved ache lagte ho but a two-day old stubble is fine too. Aur maine tumse islie pucha kyunki sab tumhara intezaar kar rahe hain breakfast ke lie. And then we have to leave too. I don't think you have enough time," she ended with a smile and left the washroom.
Fine! Fine lagta hoon main isko? Apne hospital ka patient samjha h isne mujhe. Fine!' Nachiket decided to not shave. He had lost the track of time. He was late.
Ragini took a deep breathe. She had enjoyed the sensation of his stubble rubbing on her skin (forehead) last night. She wanted to feel it again. She wasn't sure when or if they would get physical, she was not going to deprive herself of these small pleasures. And right now, she needed the stubble.
