Muslim female contestants

hey did u ever wonder why is there never a muslim female contestant in saregampa! ?even in c5 and c7 there was nt one single muslim girl singer, neither in little champs either! i was wondering why? obvioulsy its not cause of the religion or anything, is it? cause there were plenty of female muslim contestant in india's best which is kinda of against the religion but as far as singing is concerned its pnly a voice talent, then how come no female muslim singers participate eh?

But there were two good young singers in the top 28 of II3, pity that they got voted out earlier especially Ayesha sayed who was really exceptional with the added advantage of classical training, hope to hear her in the future.

Yeah...Pakistani males, Muslim males, have always been fab in reality shows AND in Bollywood. I bet the girls will be gr8 too!

I've noticed that too...though like Kumar Ji said, there were two in II3 but they were eliminated early. I think it might be that Muslims tend to be a little uneasy with girls being in the public eye...it's supposed to be a protection thing, but often goes overboard. This all might change when I try out in 2010! 😉 j/k

Noor Jahan (who later went to Pakistan) & Salma Agha (who was from Pakistan)...I can't think of any other Indian Muslim besides Suraiya at this moment.

And, don't forget the "Begums": Begum Akhtar and Shamshad Begum. And the legendary Noor Jehan, who was immensely successful in the Indian and then in the Pakistani film industry.

... and the great Parveen sultana, the Bangladeshi singer Runa laila, Nazia hassan, and the recent one who sang Jiski aankhon mein nami hain .

Zohrabai Ambalavali a pioneer - awesome playback singer from 1950s ("akhiyan milake jiya bharama ke chale nahin jaana" was sung by her).
