Chapter 11

Nandani waited for the questions but none came. She felt guilty for being happy that Mukti's disappearance had captured everyone's attention.

All but one person. Manik.

He looked hopeful as she went in and lied she had been with Rose. Suyash seemed to be uninterested in her excuse. And just seemed happy she was safe.

Manik watched her the entire time. She could tell by the way he silently sat. He was shocked.

"What am I going to do" Suyash said his hands in his palms.

"Baby the Money is all under Manik's name I really can't help you out of this one" Nyonika said patting his back. Nandani felt strange as she looked at her. Something was not right.

"I have to tell him everything" Suyash said with his head down.

Manik's hand shook as he poured himself a drink. He swallowed into one gulp. Her words loomed in his mind.

"Manik I heard you outside arguing with Nandani" Nyonika said walking into his room.

"I want the same answers. Manik what are you doing? Why were you waiting standing there like a mad man the entire night waiting for her to come home? Sending people to look all over for her? I could see the worry on your face over her disappearance. What right do you have over her to be so angry with her?"

Manik moved away and turned around.

"You are mistaken. I was not worried about Nandani. It was curiosity. It was my selfishness. If the girl I left goes out and spends a night with someone else. Will it not look like I had not left her and she had left me. Now that can never happen. I won't let it happen, this world will never have the chance to think that way"

"Say what you want Manik, do whatever you want. Use your brains"

"I know what I am doing very well. Now get out"

Nyonika walked out of the room.

And closed the door.

He spotted Nandani near his bed.

"Manik" She called out his name.

He dropped the bottle he had been drinking and when to her.

"Nandani are you ok?" He asked.

She said nothing but looked behind him.

A shadowed figure stood near his window.

"Who are you, why can I not see your face?" He asked the figure.

"If you dare take a step towards Nandani. I will kill you. She is my wife by law. I have taken her virginity. She is mine by law." He said. The shadowed figure held out his arms and took a step towards her. She took one towards him.

Manik felt a throb on his hand.

"Bhaiya wake up" He felt some one shake him.

He woke up drenched in sweat. Rishab stood over him. The bottle he had been drinking had broken and cut his hand.

"You cut your hand" He said and quickly put a handkerchief over it.

"Nahi ho sakta" He said repeatedly.

He grabbed Rishabs shoulders and said again, "Nahi ho sakta"

"Fine it can't happen" Rishab said confused.

He had never seen Manik look so scared in his life.

He hugged him.

"Everything will be ok. Mukti didi will be fine" He said. Thinking Manik was worried about Mukti.

"I will die. It can't happen" He said shaking his head.

Manik watched Nandani as she sat in front of him in class.

She had left her hair open it fell like a curtain over her cheek, partially hiding her face from him.

"Read from chapter seven Manik" Ragav said.

Manik looked at the page.

"Are you afraid of coming close to me? Afraid that if you came close to me that you would hear your name in my heart beats, scared that you would see your reflection in my eyes. Or are you scared to lose yourself to me. Are you scared of finding out if the love I have for you is real or fake?" He read out loud and stopped and looked at her.

"So who here agrees with this statement?"

The class put their hands up besides Nandani.

"Nandani why do you think it is wrong?" Ragav asked her curiously.

"He is a liar. He lied to her before. He will lie to her again. Can I be excused sir I am not feeling well" Nandani said and left.

She went outside and saw Aryaman at the front of her school.

"Shut up and come with me"

"Why are you here?"

"Get in the car"

"No"

He pulled back his jacket and showed her a gun tucked neatly into his jeans.

"Will you get in or do I have to use force?"

He placed his hand on the small of her back and led her to his car.

Manik who had followed her watched from the top of the stairs to the entrance. He could not see the man who was taking Nandani away but he saw her going. His eyes fell onto the hand the man had placed on her.

21 years ago.

One of Nyonika's friends pinched her leg.

"Yaar you are so lucky all the boys always want you"

"True" She said with a smile.

"Who would you pick between Suyash and Nihaar?"

"Nihaar?"

"Because of his money"

"No, he is a good man"

"And Suyash?"

"He just wants something his friend has"
