But I'll leave behind some notes on what happens in a Sikh wedding in case you wish to use the same theme in a future piece of writing.- There is no fire in a Sikh wedding. The pheras are taken around the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy scripture, and the wedding ceremony (called the Anand Karaj), itself takes place usually in the gurdwara. However, if the Sri Guru Granth Sahib is installed at home, it can happen there too.- There isn't technically a priest like in the Hindu culture, but rather a granthi who takes care of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.- There aren't 7 pheras but 4. The couple will be seated before the Sri Guru Granth Sahib and will listen to the granthi lecture about the significance of marriage. The stanzas that he reads are 4, and hence the 4 pheras that the couple will have to take as the ragis sing out the stanzas. There are a lot more details that go into a Sikh marriage but as they didn't pertain to this OS, I will refrain from speaking more. But if you would still like to learn more, then let me know. :)
Hi aasmani, I would live to know the details of the Sikh wedding! My wedding is round the corner and that to in a Sikh family but it's an inter religion wedding so I know very less!
Thanks a lot for the insight as it will help me write more accurate stories and also help in understanding my impending wedding!!
Lots of love!
