They do have harkats, ornaments, etc. but those are mostly seen in Classical Music - like Opera.

Even in regular, filmi Indian music these days there is a lot less use of "ornaments".

Most of the time you really see all these extra ornaments coming into play when people are trying to improvise on a song and "make it their own"

Hmm... ic what you getting at..... but I havnt really heard opera (atleast noting I remember) ... its amazing how even though their both music english and desi, their soo different!!!😕

The western eras as well as their techniques of singing in Major Minor format makes them less appealing to the ears that are tuned to single scale pattern songs like ours.

Also the Indian music is tuned in different way than those in western songs , the pure notes of indian scale are not equal to all the pure notes of western pure scale and classical tradition involves notes which are not in the well known 12 notes.

Following different foundations and techniques, we can not call one of them easier or harder than the other but each one is harder for someone who has been properly trained in the other tradition.
