Chapter - 1
The sun slowly rising in the horizon, the thakur household is busy as it was a working day. They all had their share of duties to be done in the house so that they can give a head start to their day's job. the thakur women were already up, poonam was busy in getting the pooja thali ready. Maya and bindiya were busy in the kitchen, while rekha and choti amma were busy in getting the kids ready for school. Well soni and pintu hardly needed any help from the elders now, as both where in high school and did all their chores by themselves. But rekha and choti amma liked helping them, rekha would braid soni's hair while choti amma will help pintu gather up his books.
Bhushan thakur entered the house, he was back from mandir, it has been his daily routine to wake up first in the morning and he will quietly walk to visit the mandir to pray for his family's well being, the thakurs have gone through a lot in the last five years, another blow and no one will be able to gather up the family together again. He looked around to see the families picture again, every morning he will find his bahu poonam at the small pooja ghar they had decorating it with fresh flowers, badi amma reading ramayan in front of the mandir, phullan thakur his bade bhaiyya is reading the news paper sitting right across the mandir. He slowly walked towards the mandir to keep the Prasad there, it will be distributed after the pooja only.
After keeping the Prasad down bhushan thakur turned around and looked towards the direction of the kitchen, within seconds bindiya emerged from the kitchen, a tea cup in her hand. She came towards bhushan thakur.
"yeh lijiye chote papa aapki adrak wali chai"
Bhushan thakur smiled at his bahu, he gently placed his hand on her head and accepted his tea. Bindiya smiled at his and quickly made her way towards the stairs.
She hurriedly started climbing up the stairs. She finally stopped in front of a closed door. Bindiya knocked on the door twice. No response. She knocked again this time with more force, still no response.
"paro... aadi... dekho drawaja kholo abhi. Kitni baar tumko kahe he ki drawaja band na kiya karo. Yaad he na pichli baar kaise atak gaya the yeh, tudwana pada darwaja. Tab jake tum dono bahar aa paye the. Ab kholo jaldi. School jana he ki nahi?"
"subha subha kyu un bicharo pe chilla rahi ho bhabhi"
Bindiya turned towards the source of sound. It was guddi.
"bechare? Kaun ?yeh dono? Ab tu hi bata mein karu toh kya karu.subha ke 7 baj rahe he aur yeh dono abhi bhi so rahe hain. Inka school hai aaj toh"
"arre bhabhi par jab dono kamre me he hi nahi toh isko khat khatake kaya fayda?"
"kamre me nahi hai? Par darwaja toh adar se band he na?"
"nahi bhabhi. Darwaza bahar se band he. Aap hi dekh lo"
Bindiya looked at the door lock. Yes it was locked from outside. She quickly opened it and entered the room. It was empty. and was in a mess. All the toys thrown across the room. Books were scattered around the floor.
"he bhagvan ab itni subha subha ye dono kaha gaye?"
"aapko kya lagta he bhabhi?" guddi came into the room and stood behind bindiya.
Suddenly it striked her. Her mouth widened in shock.
She ran outside the room towards the balcony. From there she had a clear vision of the play ground opposite to their home. When she concentrated well she could hear the kids shouting one name, and among all those voices on voice stood apart and it called out
"come on aadi bhaiyya... sixer maaro.. aadi bhaiyya... aadi bhaiyya"
A sweet little girl was jumping up and down at one end of the ground. Cheering out for her brother. And another boy who looked somewhere around her, was holding up a cricket bat, concentrating hard on the bowler. Ready to hit it off the ground.
"kya hua bhabhi aap akele kyu muskura rahe ho?"
Guddi asked bindiya as she also came to the balcony, bindiya looked at her and pointed towards the ground where the kids where playing. Both the ladies smiled at them. Until a loud call broke their trance.
"bindiya bhabhi, guddi, neeche aajao pooja ka time ho gaya"
Bindiya's eyes widened in horror.
"he bhagavan aaj to yeh dono marwayenge mujhe. Aye guddi, jaldi se jaa aur pintu ko bol ki in dono ko le aye peeche wale darwaje se. aur tum bhi unke hi sath aana. Tab tak ham neeche sambhal lege. Ja jaldi"
Saying this bindiya rushed down stairs as guddi ran to fetch pintu for help.
When bindiya came downstairs everybody was already gathered in front of the pooja ghar. 'aaj toh ham gaye kaam se' she thought in her mind. She gently pulled the pallu of her saree above her head and touched phullan thakurs and bhushan thakurs feet, along with badi amma and choti amma's feet as well. She then joined poonam for the arti.
Everybody closed their eyes folding their hands in front of the almighty , praying for their family's wellbeing and peace. When poonam was about to start the aarti came phullan thakurs voice.
"paro aur aadi kaha he? Aur yeh guddi aur pintu bhi nahi aaye? Poonam beta kaha he ye? "
Poonam was absolutely clueless about the missing people. she slightly turned and looked at bindiya.
please don't look at me.. please don't look at me' bindiya was continuosly chanting this on her mind while keeping her eyes shut.
"bindiya?" bang came phullan thakurs voice.
great she looked at me' bindiya opened her eyes, and she was right poonam was looking at her. She nervously looked at her father-in-law. She was about to open her mouth when a bell like voice came grabbing all their attention.
"dadaji aaj pooja nahi karni he kya?"
