I've read this interview and every single page of discussion. I feel that Kat is quite intelligent all right. Her career's going downhill and her relationship is going nowhere, so this was her way of "kickstarting" things so to speak.
Why would the normally reticent private Kat suddenly become so personal...and that too to a total stranger? She wants something of course. The hints are there; the tiff with yrf to show that she wants to be in acting roles, the meeting with the script writer to show that she's still in demand and gets scripts.
I get why she doesn't want to leave RK despite him being a bad boyfriend. At the end of the day, she's been the outsider who survived by being closely attached to someone with big bollywood connections, whether that is Salman or Ranbir. By leaving Ranbir, she'd finally be on her own, and that's a place that she's not comfortable being in.
And if Ranbir is not a good boyfriend, well she isn't a good girlfriend either. She pretty much dissed her bf right here (and she lives with him! he's not even her ex!)...You have problems in a relationship, you communicate, you don't tell the whole world about it...and then expect him to be cool with it. She wants to get married, he doesn't. It sucks, but they're not the only couple in this situation. Most people compromise or they move on. But this interview was passive aggressive.
This article was quite desperate imo...it gave me the same vibes that I had when Jennifer Aniston had her infamous interview about Brad leaving her for Angelina. Got her initial sympathy, but it became obvious through the years who was the dignified one and who was milking the scorned wife angle to promote her movie career.
