Was Bajirao a God??

I'm not sure why we glorify historical figures so much? Bajirao was a very important person in Indian history but he wasn't God. He wasn't even a King or a Prince! Just a brave warrior. Dunno why people are so touchy and sensitive about the everything related to the movie ~ the Malhaari song (as if Bajirao was such a God, he never moved a muscle while celebrating victory and just sat on a throne all day 🤔 ), the Pinga song, Mastani's bangles, Bajirao's eye lashes , Kashibai's lipstick and the list goes on 😆

Of course there's the very obvious people who are intentionally bringing down the film but other than that, WHO CARES. I have loved and enjoyed every single song and trailer of the movie, and booking the first day first show tickets, even though none of the actors are my favourites.

I DONT CARE for historical accuracy, because this movie is based on Rau the book, not a history textbook. If people want historical accuracy so much, then please go to your library and look up facts. I am paying money to be entertained bolywood style, and not watch a documentary.

I LOVE LOVE MALHAARI, it's like a Red Bull song ~ Bajirao seems such a typical warrior, full of testosterone and adrenaline and that high and proud victory look in his eyes, love it! That passion and energy in his moves, beautiful interpretation and dramatization of Bajirao. These are the kinds of things I pay to experience in a bollywood movie.

Anyway, all these controversies are giving the movie even more buzz and I guess that's what SLB wants but still, I am really looking forward to this movie. And for Dilwale too (mostly only to watch the Gerua song, wow its beautiful). Fingers crossed, I hope they're worth my time and money.

I agree with some of your points .. that Bajirao is allowed to dance when he is celebrating .. so are kashibai and mastani. Dancing is part of Indian festivals and celebrations.
But apart from the songs and dances, I would really not be happy if the story of the film has been manipulated just for entertainment purposes. If a film is based on historical figures, then for me it isn't mere entertainment. You cannot tell someone else's story and manipulate it for your own BO gains. It's their life story, they at least deserve it to be told accurately. You cannot just depend on one book, a lot more research is required. Heck SLB has been sitting on this story for 12 years .. that is good enough a time to do some real research too.

THIS!!!👏

If I want my Kitty Kat to act like Vidya Balan and Vidya Balan to look sexy like Katrina...then its MY problem for having wrong expectations...not Vidya's or Kat's or the producer/director's problem😆😆

i dont get why some people are hell bent to prove this movie as a historic movie and want it to be shown as it has to be!! even if we take epic ramayan,mahabharat to make a movie they modify it accordingly to todays taste !!

so i dont see anything wrong if bansali modified it to meet todays taste !!!having said that i didnt like Malhaari song!! as a leader/king ,he should have shown some grace in dance steps not like doing sadak chap ! but its okay i will take it as a entertainment !

But our gods, Shiva also did his tandav dance remember, so did Ganesha to entertain his parents. 😆

But due to class hierarchy , I guess the kings just enjoyed dancing girls in their court. And high class didn't dance like a tapori for sure.😆 If ppl are enraged it will be till the movie releases, once it flops or becomes a hit ppl won't bother. All publicity is good publicity in SLB's case.

@Bold
You explained why you want to see Baji Rao, fair enough. That is your expectation and it is your right for paisa vasool

@Red
Who cares ? People do. Baja Rao is historical not mythical and he existed. Forget the Dilwale vs Baji Rao controversy it is BO based and it is bakhwas. But there are people who care about history, I am not one of them but you cannot say who cares to them. I have seen something like this happen in Hollywood for Alexander the movie.

Alexander was based on a book too, it was directed by Oliver Stone a very respected director and it was clear it was a passion project. But it attracted controversy world wide from historians and Greeks and other parts of the world because Alexander is one of the greatest historical figures and much is known about him, his sexuality and his conquests. You cannot get away with saying it is based on a book, it is based on a historical figure about whom much is known.

Long story short the film was eviscerated by critics and it has a low rotten tomato rating. Three or four versions of the film exists because people kept saying events were missing or compressed and Oliver Stone kept adding to it. He really understood the importance of what people were saying and a lot people keep buying the version with the new footage because obviously it mattered to them.

Unless SLB set out to make a masala movie about Baji Rao everything about this movie will be controversial. The Dilwale clash will fade away but people will dissect this movie for years because it was a passion project for SLB, there was a lot of effort put into it, he is a respected director and people and historians expect more IMO as Bajo Rao existed . Expect reviews to be brutal about how the historical aspect was handled. If you want a taste read the reviews for Alexander.

He wasn't a king. He was just a general, equivalent to a minister or something. You have seen how Indian ministers behave. Doubt it was anything different before. Just because they're historical figures doesn't mean they were classy god-like creatures. Kings and leaders used to publicly and officially have courtesans dance in their courts so god knows how they were in their private lives. And here we are talking about a GENERAL. A young, rebellious, daring, testosterone and bold fighter so I don't really expect him to have anarkali like grace.

But yeah, I agree with you, take it as entertainment. I'm sure Bhansali has done his research and I dont think he claimed for this movie to be a documentary.

For me, having Bajirao dancing is one thing, but having Bajirao dance to "dushman ki vaat lawli!" after a BATTLE is another. War is serious business. Lives are lost on both sides. It is not like they won a football match and now they are dancing in a bar. A general would be more aware of that than anyone else. That's why post-war victory celebrations were suitably grim. It was generally the civilians singing songs of praise for the king and God and it was a power move. A king/general would never make light of such a situation. Can you imagine Ashoka doing the macarena after the battle of kalinga or something? If you want a modern day analogy, imagine soldiers fighting at Kargil in the day and then hitting the bars at night to celebrate.
Plus you keep saying Bajirao is not a king, he is just a warrior, but would a warrior have the kind of palace he does in Deewani Mastani? even Mughal emperors would not have that kind of luxury.

Yes it is a film and it is for entertainment, but there is a karmic responsibility when it comes to portraying real people, specially if they are deceased.

Look, I think the film looks beautiful and they have put a lot of effort in it and I hope it pays off, but that doesn't mean it has no flaws and we should blindly defend everything in it.

To all the people expecting historical accuracy from bollywood, get real. I love bollywood but c'mon, you can't possibly expect to have a documentary from them. For that, you should watch the discovery/history channel or where ever they cater such stuff.

Also, I think people get offended way too easily these days, if you don't like something, don't watch it.
