He has not stopped making love stories. Love is the strong, running undercurrent of his movies. Nor has he trivialized bonds but he explores the bonds, the accepted norms shows the intrinsic flaws, the failed expectations and also hope of redemption.

Socha na Tha was his beginning of this travelogue, A slightly superficial look at the growth of pig headed individuals who discover and accept love enroute their journey.

Jab we met was the coming of age of Geet as well as Shahid Kapur... A man was running away from responsibilities, was throwing a tantrum.. A girl was running away from home looking for her prince charming.. she meets a grumpy, disgruntled frog on the way..both rub off each other and learn that responsibilities can not be shirked and every prince charming need not be charming to begin with.

Rockstar was about how love can recharge your life, destroy your life and sustain your life. You dont need a partner's physical presence for the love survives..Love survives and she survives within you, your heart and your soul...

Highway was the complex and layered one.. It looks at the social relationships, how the expected relationships are never what it turns out to be.. A girl lives within a secure and extended family but is she safe? No, She is prey to pedophile who is families close friend. what does the mother do when the daughter complains..she shushes her because their status will be affected by the scandal... The daughter grows up never feeling safe, always play acting the role of socialite..

She feels free when a social outcast kidnaps her, she feels safe when a criminal takes her with him.. The irony of it.. Love happens because heart recognizes the purity of another heart..

in the end..you will feel shackled, imprisoned and alone in the company of your family but the mountains, solitude and the memories can liberate you, make you feel welcome, evoke the sense of belonging ...

But I will say this... out of present genre..It is Imitiaz Ali who has been the excitng film maker .. he appears to give the same treatment, yet the layered message would be different..😊
