Off in the night, while you live it up, I'm off to sleep
Waging wars to shape the poet and the beat
I hope it's gonna make you notice
I hope it's gonna make you notice
After studying in St. Prestige for over a decade, Khushi thought she wouldn't be surprised anymore by the blings of luxury. But dear god was she wrong.
Standing proudly in front of her was a Porsche 918 spyder in midnight black. For a moment she thought she'd never be so marvelled by a car. Nor had she thought she would be riding in THAT with a person equally marvellous! But here she was.
"It's so short!" She blurted before she could stop herself.
"Yeah. There's a reason why it is called a sports car" A breathy chuckle from very close behind made a shiver run down her spine.
"Shall we?" Arnav asked her, holding the door open.
Khushi flushed realising that she was gawking at the car mindlessly for a few seconds now. With a small nod, she entered the car and her breadth was caught in her throat.
Beautiful.
Everything was sleek and sharp with all types of gadgets you could imagine in a car.
"wow" Khushi whistled slowly.
"I know right! It's one of my favourites." He said running his fingers over the steering slowly.
"It is very beautiful." Khushi said shyly.
"Alright then. Where to miss." Arnav asked mimicking Jack Dawson from Titanic.
"Hauz Khas, please" Khushi said awkwardly.
"Buckle up." Arnav had not yet finished the sentence and the car lurched forward making khushi almost knock her head on the dashboard.
"Careful" Arnav scoffed.
"Jerk"
Arnav was strangely feeling very giddy inside. The prospect of giving Khushi a ride home was making him all sorts of happy. He only hoped that Hauz Khas does not come very soon.
"So Khushi, tell me about yourself. Because I'm sure you know all about me." He said cockily, winking at her.
HE WINKED!
That was all Khushi could think until Arnav nudged her with his free hand.
"Don't worry buttercup, I promise I'm not one of those pshyco killers who will get to know you, be your friend, give you a drive home and instead take you to some stranded place and kill you. Definitely not that person" Arnav said with laughing eyes.
"If anything, girls would come with their own will to me and I wouldn't have to kidnap them" He winked agin.
"Good thing I'm not willing. And I know karate." Khushi said pulling out her tongue at him.
"Real mature." Arnav scoffed.
"Whatever" She muttered back to him.
"Rolling your eyes is rude." He mocked. "Like I care" She replied aptly.
There was silence in the car with only a song lowly playing in the background.
Even in a city like Delhi, the streets were fairly empty at this time of the night.
After a few more of silence, Khushi started humming to the song playing which she was familiar with.
"You have an amazing voice." Arnav said smilingly.
"Thank you." Khushi was surprised by the unexpected compliment.
"You should join the college singing team."
"I already am on that team" Khushi said pressing her lips together.
"Oh. I never noticed." How could he not notice someone like her before?!
"Not many do." She whispered looking down.
Her little remark was followed by a heavy silence that had turned from comfortable to awkward.
"They should." Arnav said so lowly that Khushi wouldn't have was she not sitting right beside her.
Hauz Khas came sooner than Arnav would have liked. He asked Khushi for her house and rolled onto her driveway.
"So this is it, buttercup. You can now finally be free of my presence." Arnav said laughingly.
Arnav had sour taste in his mouth after saying those words. Strangely, he wanted to keep her in his presence always. She amused him greatly and could turn his mood around at anytime of the day.
"Oh, the relief!" Khushi exclaimed jokingly. "And please, please don't call me buttercup ever again." She said with a straight face.
"Why? I like it. It suits you.Like that angry little powerfuff girl." He was now full blown laughing at his own logic.
Khushi crossed her arms across her chest and huffed loudly. But secretly, her heart was soaring at the sound of his laugh. She could now proudly list herself among the lucky ones who have seen him so happy. And that gave her a strange sort of satisfaction.
"Goodnight Buttercup." Arnav said in a husky, drool-worthy voice.
"Goodnight cupcake." Again, for the second time since they had met, she blurted the first thing that came to her mind before realizing.
A very adorable frown formed at the meeting of Arnav's brows.
"Don't call me that." He said scrunching his node slightly.
"I'll call you that as long as you call me buttercup." Khushi replied pulling out her tongue at him. Again.
"Cupcake it is then." Arnav whispered slowly but Khushi heard him clear.
"Goodbye" He said winking at her. That wink is gonna be the death of her.
"Goodbye" She said with a cute smile.
Even after hearing the numerous stories Khushi had heard about his Bad Boy ways, she couldn't help but wonder they were wrong. He didn't seem like the kind to be notoriously evil but rather charmingly sweet.
And in that moment Khushi realized, that's what bad boys do. They make you hate them and like them at the same time. The show you the darkness in them but does not let you escape the light. They leave you hanging by a thread which they hold with their very hand.
