There is an interesting juxtaposition in relationships here. Shivam raised in a large family...in some ways it's a joint family what with Sarla's continuous drama to get Shanti Devi to fork over more of Raghav's earnings to her. He has been raised in a household where his mother is a pawn in the hands of his grandma who has terrorized her for 25 years. He wants to walk in the footsteps of his father..an man who continues to gives priority to his mother and sister over his own wife and children but can on occasion override his mother's decision. i.e. return the Rs. 5 lakhs to Riya's dad and get Nimmi the money to design wedding outfits.
Shivam had been the silent, suffering son who has watched his mother treated like a free maid/cook and punching bag for Shanti Devi and at times for Sarla. He wants to give his mother a break from toiling for the family after all these years. He himself is confused about how to juggle between wife and mother when the family relationships are always in flux and complicated by unending drama.

Cowsalya sadly enough for the love of her husband never learned to stand up to these two women just to keep the peace in the family. Surprisingly, there are women of the previous generations who have lived life this way...CVs are portraying the realistic dynamics of such relationships of decades gone by...maybe outdated by still lingers in some parts of India.
Riya on the other comes from a family where she's been coddled and pampered by her doting father without having to really lift a finger. Relationships are basically simple with no real issues to work through. She's like a fish out of water and can't understand the drama that goes on at Shanti Sadan about everything. She sees a few things happening but doesn't seem to grasp the cunning ways of Shanti Devi. She is gullible and having been the center of her father's world doesn't really know how to handle the women in the household. To her Raghav is like Anupam and so has the better relationship with him than the rest of the family.

Bottom line, Riya has been in a happier environment but doesn't have a clue on how to navigate within an extended family. Shivam has been in a complicated, drama ridden family all his life and is baffled by Riya's lack of understanding of family relationships. Wonder when this couple will find common ground and deal with the family together.

I agree I never expected dis kind of advice from bunty..advising not to break one's relationship is one thing bt justifying it wid a logic dat it was she who wanted to marry him or dat she must also beat him in retaliation was ridiculous

You're right. Daadi is also forgiven for her cruelty& Khushiya for her utter stupidity.

The only problem it seems is Riya-she is not forgiven even though

she hasn't done anything to harm any body.

This is because all the rest are a family-they love each other

but Riya is an outsider who shouldn't be here-a mistake of

a marriage as shivam always tells her.

.Shivam ll get away wid a mistake owing to d so called bond

Yes, as will Nimmi for concealing the matter of money, Khushiya for not protecting

Preeti/Nimmi/shivam from Sarla & her kids, Raghwa for siding with his Mom unfairly !

The only person who will be made to feel guilty and unwanted is Riya

because she is an outsider. But this is the mentality of a section of our society in general.

Even on this forum I have read posts where people have said that Riya is spoilt and is

not understanding enough/sacrifising enough! Riya gives up all her salary,

gave up her scooty, remained silent when Nimmi burnt her sarees and is now

selling all he rgold for Sarla! She also does housework, holds down a job and agrees to

'seek permission' if she has to visit her ailing Dad. Yet, she is

headstrong &selfish ? A woman perhaps should also show cheap sycophancy and

be utterly stupid in the face of obvious insults from her in-laws.

Oooh good word! Sycophancy, I like it! lol 😆👏

Agree to all of the above, in addition to giving up her usual "normal" liberties (things that would be considered normal to the likes of people who live in 2015 and not 1909) she gracefully handles the emotional and mental abuse bombarded on her by every single member of that family (save Raghav, but could that be because he's never around or maybe the makers will use this lack of friction between these two characters to get Raghav on her side eventually, who knows). Man, if I was a member of that family and kept being told I was an outsider after what I'd seen, I'd be praising hallelujah- better to not be the typical Shrivastav than join the circles of hell.

Thank you dear!😆

Yes, Riya's sacrifices and efforts at adjustment are made with dignity & grace.

She gives up many things without sucking up to anyone . she also protests when she thinks things are wrong -whether its for her Dad's respect or for Preeti's job
. Its Shivam who looks petty & behaves disgracefully.

👏 You said it mate!
The whole srivastava family acts as though Riya is from a weird, clueless family
(read nuclear/'motherless ' family) and she must 'learn' to live in a normal, large family.

But actually, the Shrivastavas are the most weird family with extremely cruel, cunning people like Sarla & shanti on one hand and completely clueless individuals like Kaushalya & Raghav! Most people in the world would find adjusting with Riya easier than
understanding any of the Srivastavas😆

dont u think Riya was even a little wrong in the whole situation ?
yes Shivam was wrong for slapping Nimmi and expecting Riya to say sorry...but Riya also over heard a conversation not meant for her...and spewed venom in Shivam's mind by telling him how can nimmi borrow money from bunty etc etc, did she verify the facts ? ofcourse no...then isnt she wrong...shivam forced her to share, but she cudve atleast verified before poisoning shivam's mind...

When Ashantiya was planning to do the ice showers, Kushiya was begging her not to do it. She even took over Ashantiya's prayaschit. But what did Riya do, knowing that Kushiya isnt well, she didnt even protest Kushiya doing it...preeti n nimmi atleast voiced it out...but she was standing there n gawking like an idiot...ofcourse she shudnt beg, but atleast she cudve voiced out her thoughts politely, instead of insulting shivam in-front of his family...doesnt she feel anything when she insults shivam infront of all...though shivam also looses his cool, but he immediately regrets n calls her, keeping his ego aside...but most of the time, she has only acted with her ego not bending not picking his calls...esp her behavior when they had their first fight and he slept on the floor, what kinda behavior was that, she didnt feel an ounce of hurt at seeing her husband sleep on the floor...she shudve told him to sleep on the bed, but continue the fight the next day...but she banished him from his own bed, how is she different from Amit then...even he used to taunt amit n tell him to knock before entering his own room...her that behavior atleast told me that she doesnt love shivam, whatever it was, was attraction and momentary...in time of distress she isnt gonna stand by his side.

and I am sorry to say this, the situations where the women of the house are hit etc, are different situations...we cannot compare them with this story. here its a matter of misunderstandings created bt the old hag, and no-one wants to hit riya...infact kushiya always calls her pyar se, even prepares food n all for her...doesnt that count for anything in today's world...where a saas always expect the bahu to cook even if she is working, here is a saas who prepares the tiffin for both beta and bahu...

and yes, it is the truth that the people in the house has to adjust... shivam asked riya to say sorry, she didnt want to...so what, if her sorry wudve stopped the drama then isnt it ok to adjust a bit...she cudve voiced her opinion strongly, but politely...like saying something like, 'I did no wrong, and dont know why i am asked to say sorry, but if my sorry diffuse the situation then so be it'. Would it have done any harm...no...it was her ego talking that time...
