Just to add in my two cent: While I generally abhor Balaji and Ekta maiyya for adding insane dramatics and simple tropes to Indian serials, I think they aren't always consistently bad. Ekta is one of the few people who is actually able to instill exciting drama that doesn't look OTT into dramas. Rashmi Sharma tries but it doesn't give the same impact. So in regards to the drama quotient, I have pretty high expectations because drama is one thing Balaji/ Ekta can do well.
Secondly, they are able to make nuanced characters. They generally don't because the nuances within the character get taken away when the focus shifts to elongating the storyline rather than focusing on characterization (YHM is a prime example, when it was on the general 11 pm slot with no real elongation pressure, it was a wonderful character study show with real grey characters, it only turned into its current shit-fest after the move to the competitive 7pm slot and hence focus went on stretching the drama rather than making a good one).
Another example of Ekta/ Balaji making nuanced characters was on their other finite show - Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh. It ran for only a year and had some great characters (the entire male lead tbh and the ending was something different too -- the leads stayed as friends rather than lovers and the woman remained independent after her divorce). So they can do a good job. That's why I have some faith that the storyline in this show won't be too horrible.
