It might have to do with the fact that Diwali is a community holiday with fireworks, and people going out. No one wants to sit for hours in the cinema during diwali with all the festivities going on in the neighbourhood. Eid and christmas by comparison is much more quieter. There's less activities and less rituals that take up most of your day. So people are free to go to the theaters. During eid many of my friends go to the theater and dinner after. During Diwali my hindu friends usually spend it with family and friends.
