Gucci store launch in Mumbai flanked by celebs

Mumbai: With The Lakme Indian Fashion Week on its onset and the Italian brand Gucci hitting the Indian market it was surely celebrity pouring night in Mumbai.

Bollywood and high-fashion go hand in hand, and just in case you'd forgotten, it was made evident once again at the India launch party of Gucci held on Saturday in Mumbai. The red carpet to the event was studded with Bollywood stars all evening, with red-hot couple John Abraham and Bipasha Basu making an early entry, arm-in-arm, rubbishing all those break-up rumours with all that touchy-feelyness. They may not have discussed their shaadi plans, but took the opportunity to plug the brand they were here to support.

"It's me Bipasha wearing Gucci and I think it is the kind of brand that ever single person would want to wear -- male or female, because it's fashionable, it's trendy, it's classy, it's chic and it's everything you want to be," beamed a lovely Bipasha.

John Abraham added, "It's an established brand. It's a big brand and it's a very popular brand."

Dressed in a chic cocktail dress, in walked Preity Zinta, flanked by Bollywood's favourite director Karan Johar, both making a statement in black. When you show up for a Gucci event, what's better than carrying the brand you're there to support?

"My bag is Gucci," Zinta declared. And who says premium fashion brands are for the ladies only? Karan Johar was heard as saying, "I am wearing Gucci shoes."

The one-liner of the day came from Zinta who chose the safest way to tackle the prickly marriage question. Preity joked, "I love you, I love you Karan you are the ultimate for me." To which Karan replied, "We are formally announcing we are getting married."

With Bollywood taking the centre stage at the party, the fashionistas played a supporting role. Designers Rohit Bal, Manish Malhotra and Narendra Kumar did make an appearance, but were overshadowed by the chamakte sitare
