This drama was aired way back in 2005 but I found it only recently, and was taken aback by how much I liked it. I have the tendency to Google every and any drama and movie before watching it as it gives me some idea of what I'm in for and what to expect and that is why I was so surprised when this drama hit almost all the right spots for me, because its plot was so overdone and cliched even back then - top star's wife suffers from amnesia - but it handled it pretty nicely. For most of its run, it's a funny, sweet (sweet) rom - com, which makes you smile and giggle and reach for the next episode.
I m not delusional to say that it is a perfect drama (no drama is) but it has just enough heart and humor to keep you interested. The characters are refreshingly relatable, real and flawed (which I dig). When I read that our heroine is a housewife of some hallyu star,I ...just ..couldn't...Gah, just know that I hate submissive women with no identity and no intention to make one. But Yoo hye - chan was NOT a submissive women, she was in fact a modern - yet -traditional, forward thinking, ambitious person with DREAMS. And I loved her, Period. She is shown as the girl who wanted to become a famous script writer and PD , wanting to make her own dramas , but she eventually gave up that dream to stay by sang young's side ( her husband of few and boyfriend of 11 years) and support him in achieving his dream. And I know many people may scoff at this self - sacrificial action, but I would like to say that she did that because sang young was actually a very amazing guy, he was sweet, caring, doting, loving ( there are just not enough adjectives to describe him) and totally worth the pain (at least initially) and she wanted to do it for him, which made a whole lot difference. Sang young on the other hand is portrayed as the guy who really loves his wife but has trouble explaining it and after a point gets so busy in his work that he starts taking her for granted as he is only used to receiving love from her. He doesn't see the need to tell her how feels repeatedly. But to hye chan this looks life he lost interest in her. The only issue that tore this relationship apart is lack of communication, which is great as it makes their problems seem real and true to life.
My favorite part of this drama is the 11 year courtship of this couple and how they transition from high school sweet hearts to young adult lovers and finally husband and wife. Writers make an effort to show us the entire relationship, even what happens after that "happily ever after" and if you watch k - dramas you know it is a rare occurrence. And if not for anything else, watch it for the short memory clips at the end of each episode. They are cute AND relevant to the story.
But as I said before this is not a perfect show , despite being a decent watch , the drama does get repetitive and sometimes you are left wondering whether the writer has run out of plot points. And although I loved hye chan she sometimes annoyed me so much I wanted to throw something at the screen and in the last few episodes I just couldn't connect with the show emotionally. Also, I have a feeling that some of you may find it a slow watch.
At the end of the day if you want to watch something light but not fluffy, this might be where you would want to start. If not for anything else you can watch this for choi siwon! Its his first drama and he looks SO CUTE.
