The choreographer, in a free wheeling chat with BollywoodLife.com, reveals the lesser known side of Kajol as a dancer...
Kajol has always been a spectacular actress. She has packed a punch with her performances in films like Baazigar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Fanaa and My Name Is Khan. She is known for her gritty performances and devil-may-care attitude onscreen and off screen. But how many of us know that she is a terrific dancer too!
We chat with celebrity choreographer Bhavesh Gandhi who highlights this wonderful facet of this talented actress. The actress shares a special bond with the choreographer she was the first celeb he ever choreographed. Yesterday, she graced an awards nights for his Struts Academy. Kajol was there at a fourth year anniversary celebration for Struts. It was special because she was a Struts Star for the first year too. Read on.
Speaking about Kajol's strength as an actor he gushes, "Kajol is an amazing dancer but my only bone of contention is that she is known for that. She is spontaneous and extremely instinctive with her moves. She improvises expertly and is a natural with her performances."
According to Bhavesh, Kajol's strength is in hip - hop and jive and hails her rocking performance in Jail House Rock from the otherwise forgettable We Are Family. "I think her dance in Jail House Rock is one of her best. She is both effortless and mesmerising to watch on screen, "he says.
Kajol, as an actor or dancer, has a power to capture the screen with her mere presence. Bhavesh agrees with this and shares, "I absolutely love her cameo in Disco Deewane in Karan Johar's Student Of The Year. She flits in the frame merely for few seconds but that portion is extremely watchable."
It would be interesting to reminisce that a teenager Kajol was first spotted dancing at a wedding by a filmmaker and her talent was spotted instantly. Talking about the Dilwale actor's most memorable performances, he says he loves Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen, Bole Chudiyaan from Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Ghum and believes that Kajol can pull off any dancing style with panache, though jive is her strength. "She can do a total Bollywood number like Bole Chudiyaan and also do something like Jail House Rock and do justice to both," he shares.
Speaking about the actress latest flick, Rohit Shetty's Dilwale, he says that he thinks that the dance numbers in the film will be phenomenal. "Kajol's Iceland song with the King of Romance Shah Rukh Khan will be a next Suraj Hua Maddham of this decade. Though Kajol did not have major dancing scenes in the song, it is still memorable. For me dance doesn't mean steps alone. It is also about emotions that a performance internalises and gives that experience to the viewers."
