I think a lot of the so called ISIS members were not really staunch followers but just needed a job and some money and women. So fearing death they were forced to leave, many could have been shot trying to escape.

How do you know this to be true? If the West (US and other western nations) says something it's propaganda, but if the Soviets say it, does that make it true? One side's propaganda is another side's truth.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to become involved in a long drawn out argument about the matter , but I will say this: The safest bet in a complex situation such as this is to to doubt the veracity of statements made by both sides.
