Dill Mill Gayye - A Reminiscence
It is that time of the year again, when sitting in front of my computer screen and staring at the little numbers in the bottom right corner have me transferred to another world. I confess of doing it more often than not, but this particular date is special.
29-10-15
For the uninitiated, 5 years down the memory lane, this date saw the last episode of one of the most epic shows, Dill Mill Gayye's last episode being telecast on television. You know you are a DMG fan if your facial emotion comprises of a small smile along with a wave of sadness filling your eyes. I know it because this is how I see myself every time I am reminded of DMG.
The show was a trendsetter in the year 2007 when it first aired. Despite being loosely related to its apparent prequelSanjeevani, it was a whole new concept in itself. The stories revolved around the personal and professional lives of the doctors, but with an element of lesser drama, deception and manipulation, which were the main facets of shows of that time. DMG was conceptualised and executed to cater to the youth.
All the characters of the show were relatable, their uniqueness being the fusion of traditional values with the contemporary ideals. The makers kept alive the aspects that piggy back along with being an Indian. The kangan, the payal, the dupatta, the sneaky fire-escape moments, the blushes followed by oye-hoyyes, all of this is what Dill Mill Gayye means to us all.
Thanks to the legend that the show was, I am flooded with millions of memories that hit back time and again. The show became a platform to bring out the finest actors, the most amazing writers who lent wings to their imagination with their impeccable fan-fictions, the best and loyal friends who've stayed with you against the atrocities of time and a lot more than can't be put down in words.
As I sit down with an intention to say something, I realise that any number of words is too less to convey the strength of emotions that obstruct my vision. Enclosing I can only say,
Aaj ek hasi aur baant li, aaj ek dua aur maang li, aaj ek aansoo aur pee liya, aaj ek zindagi aur jee li, aaj ek sapna aur dekh liya, kyunki aaj, dill toh mill hie gayye they'.
