jalebi it really depends.. Most people's conformance to social norms will way outweigh the idea of trust by any measure.... we do trust total stranger when we allow a surgeon to make us sign release form and operate us... Trust has several nuances.....
agree with you on this one completely.
but then how weird is that you can trust a complete stranger (surgeon as you say) but the person whom you should have 100% trust in (spouse) you may not. that's sad.

You trust the surgeon's professional/technical ability and prowess.....Analogous to how you might swear by your spouse's talent in a particular field or his/her finesse in accomplishing certain tasks...Its easier to trust in such matters because the "talent" or "skill" isnt mercurial..
It is very hard to repose trust in someone on an emotional level, because the human mind is ever so fickle and wayward...The human mind often runs amok, our varied and capricious emotions in a state of constant chaos, one always endeavouring to pip the other,to consume the individual wholly..More often than not,at times when I hit the roof,I find my anger obliterating all the rationality and level-headedness....For someone else, jealousy might be their Achilles heel, the sense of jealousy makes them gravitate towards a vortex of anger, denial and frustration...It's next to impossible to trust such people, and sometimes,it's disturbing to realise that even our closest friends and relatives aren't impregnable to pangs of jealousy, anger and other such human proclivities....
It's easier by far to trust oneself, because one can be sure that your conscience wouldn't betray him/her...One might betray one's conscience by not adhering to its advice, but the vice-versa is thankfully not a very common workaday happening....One feels comfortable to stash away one's most intimate and private thoughts in a deep dark chamber of one's mind, thereby rendering it inaccessible to everyone but one's own self
