The very popular series Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' registered a huge surge in UK ratings last night, delivering its best ever audience & a huge peak for the channel.
According to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' drew in a massive 280,400 viewers - peaking at 379,100 viewers - the biggest audience for a fiction on the channel for nearly two years. Last night's episode of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' witnessed the protagonist Ishita realising she has been possessed by the late Shagun's spirit.
While, fictions on Star Plus have remained below 200,000 viewers for sometime, this is the first time the show has taken the audience back to nearly 300,000 viewers for a 30-minute capsule. Previously, shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum', Saathiya' and the defunct Saraswatichandra' and Pyar Ka Dard Hai' were examples of huge audiences.

As a foreign viewer of Indian TV - I know many people watch to stay connected to India. Most people can tolerate illogical tracks b/c that is the norm of Indian shows, but what got handfuls of viewers away was just lack of delicacy with the surrogacy track. Whether they realized it or not, the disgusting approach to a child for Ishita-Raman did turn viewers off.

Indian TV has leaps to go but nothing with happen with the current soap format. I think they are capable of delivering great shows, but not 6-7 days/week for 52 weeks in a year...that's just preposterous.

So no UK viewers may not be different from Indian viewers or American viewers, but looking at the demographics of the foreign viewers - it's likely still a lot of housewives. I know the largest majority of desi TV viewers in my town are either aunties or bas...so not much of a different demographic than India?

Plus I'm keeping up with it b/c this is desi TV illogic...not YHM standards...but I don't feel morally offended and disgusted by the LU.

Being a UK viewer, I can honestly say, that we are loving it. Seeing Divyanka all crazy and flustered makes good entertainment for us. Lol. Every Asian I know here actually has been watching it recently, so it's all going good.

Perfect post esp about the daily soap format which i mentioned in another post earlier on... These channels have put too much pressure on creatives, 7 days a week for a soap is too much which is why creatives dont have enough time to think of good tracks and come up with all these rubbish tracks... Everything is rushed. In my opinion shows should just be 3-4 days a week and atleast a good episode bank should be there so actors can take short breaks if they want to and they dont have to shoot for too long.

Some of my relatives were really annoyed when they found out its turning into a horror show, some quit but some are finding really interesting.
