I mean 99% of the population doesn't even read these gossips so how does it helps in publicity??

Only 2-5% of the total population actually go to see a movie in theater!

People do reads gossips a lot. Zoom TV and E24 and filmfare is still doing good business. Blinds do create new gossips which directly promotes the stars and films.
