Above all, his road to superstardom is a motivation tale in itself. In an industry accused of being submerged in nepotism, it's superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, who proves that even outsiders can make a huge mark in Bollywood!
As you know, SRK had started first in the television industry. He came into public consciousness with his role in Fauji, before he became a part of Umeed, Doosra Kewal and others. It was these roles which made people love and accept this young man with floppy hair and dimpled smile!
So to inspire all the strugglers wanting to fit into Bollywood, let's look at the small steps SRK has taken before joined Bollywood!
Fauji
Little did they know when the first episode of Fauji was aired, that a star...no...wait for it...a superstar was born! SRK played Lt. Abhimanyu Rai, part of the Indian regiment under training whom the show follows. Though he was one of the leads, it was SRK and his impish charm that made the maximum impact among the star-cast!
You can watch a scene from the serial here...
Dil Dariya/Doosra Keval
Shah Rukh Khan was also a part of two Lekh Tandon serials, Dil Dariya and Doora Keval. Dil Dariya was about a Sikh and a Hindu family, and the tensions that brew between them, when the strife begins to rise in Punjab. Doosra Keval is about a young girl's search for truth behind the death of her brother (played by Shah Rukh Khan), who had migrated to the city for further studies. Shah Rukh Khan and Lekh Tandon later shared screen in Swades.
