These rules created problems

In the days of PRC and before that, the followers of certain rules were considered great warriors. Those rules are:-
1. Do not attack after sunset.
2. Do not attack from behind.
3. Do not attack without prior warning.
4. Do not use weapon on a weaponless person.
5. Forgive your enemy if he surrenders to you.

These rules may sound very great. But, thinking practically, these rules created problems for those who followed these. This is because often in a war, one party followed these rules and the opposing party did not.

Yup so true.........

But if you add one rule to these........ "Tit for tat" then all problems are solved. Krishna used the same trick.

In Mahabharat times also these rules were recommended. But Krishn himself said that in a war, your only aim is to defeat the opposing party. His argument was:-
"War should be the last resort. Go for war only if you have tried all other possible options and they did not work. When other options did not work, then why think of any rules in war? Just kill the enemy." 👏

But if any rules are not used for the war........ then it will be...... what u called a coward act, u know to just go and kill enemy. Who ll respect yodhas then. I think all those great ancient yodhas are respected today not only bcoz they were brave and skillful but also bcoz they obeyed rules. Though war is the last option, it should have some rules.

I completely agree with Piyu.
Yesterday Alah told about one more rule'don't attack a poet', he was indeed great but then y does prithvi takes a poet to any war.

Yes, but what if the other party is not following these rules? It may be argued that we should follow rules even when others are not following. But let us consider a scenario and analyze it from practical point of view:-
Two warriors are fighting against each other. Call them A and B. They both have swords. A is winning. B's sword falls. Now B is weaponless. A does not want to use weapon on a weaponless person. Therefore, he drops his sword also. However, B's army does not find anything wrong in killing a weaponless person with sword. When A drops his sword, then somebody from B's side kills A with a sword. This is just one example. We can come with many more problems if the rules are followed by one group but not by the other.
