Maya has always been a bit of an enigma. I have been dying to get an insight into what makes her tick. Reading of her speak of all that she has been through and the incredible support Arnav gave her when she was so severely depressed, I think brings home to me the difference between loving and being in love. How can anyone help but love this caring, considerate Arnav. But that's not being in love. Love means so many different things with different people. Often relationships which start with the being in love',end up with just the loving' in the twilight years. Arnav and Maya seem to have bypassed all that and gone straight to the loving part.
You wrote of Maya having spent hours on that couch looking out at the wide open space. How strong must that feeling of being trapped inside herself been that she wanted a permanent way out. And did it make her feel that she wasn't good enough for Arnav? That this selfless man deserved better? Even years later, as she reflects on that time, it still feels as though she hasn't come to terms with it fully.
Khushi is fighting her own tussle between the heart and the mind. While I want her to heed Maya's advice of reaching out to her second chance', I want her to make that step because she wants to and not because anyone else thinks she should. Not even Arnav. Because he deserves nothing less.
"Maya reached across to clasp her shoulder once, yet gave her space to unravel" - I loved this ... it shows so much understanding and empathy on Maya's part. I really like how this entire conversation so perfectly finds the balance between knowing so much about the other person but not "knowing" them. If that makes sense ...
As you so beautifully showed us Mirabell, the heart is indeed "a strange thing".
I'm very happy that your AD is settling down :)
