I come from a family where the skin tone of a person does not matter. What matters is how a person is from inside. Outer heauty is superficial but the heart does matter. And i would also say don't judge the book by its cover.

The creams like fair and lovely have chemicals in them which may be harmful for skin. Also i would definitely don't want to go in a family who don't respect the other people be it skin tone or any other thing.

No!Not at all i don't believe in all these stupid stuffs i am wheatish a lil chubby not very tall but my parents never bother abt these things they have taught me to be independent and i really don't want any guy who judge a girl's beauty from her outer appearance according to me the heart is what should matter

its definitely not a sin but some people are still old minded tere think grls should be fair
but I don't think that being dark skin is a sin it good I love people with dark skin tere are more beautiful than white skine people
and aboit marring the person who family taunt us about our skin color we should definitely (I don't know about other but I am definitely not going to tolerate this nonsense) not going to mary this kind of guys who can not stand for us but still claims to love u

U sud not cry due to them. Those who r taunting u may have some flaws on themselves only as no one is perfect. Scarlett Rose is also dark-skinned n plump like u but she is beautiful. So, u r also beautiful. U sud tell them dat even dusky skinned people have life. Even SRK is proud to have a dusky wife Gauri Khan. Its not bad to take care of our skin but we sud it on our own not wid others taunting us to do dat. Its okay to even lost weight but no do sumthn drastic on others taunts.

Not a regular commentator in this forum but this topic was really interesting and attracted me, so I'm gonna comment.

I actually don't think it's a sin to be dark skinned at all. Skin is skin. To me, what matters more than skin, is the personality and the features. Once people start gelling with you and enjoying your personality, I can guarantee you that no one will think about the skin tone of the other person. And in regards to features, I've seen so many people with white skin and bad features or dark skin and good features. So to me, skin colour really does not make a difference, features do. An example is (in my opinion) is Anushka Sharma vs Nandita Das --- in terms of features and looks, Nandita Das KILLS Anushka. Anushka looks like nothing in front of Nandita. Nandita is BEAUTIFUL.

Secondly, I honestly don't think having dark skin is something to be ashamed of at all. Skin is skin. To be perfectly honest, I myself prefer to be more tanned because I think I look better with a tan. Plus in the Western world (i.e. America and other places) having a tan is actually looked upon as something attractive. People go tanning daily. Fair skin is not as hyped up (as it is in India). Honestly, beauty is subjective. The only thing that should matter, is how YOU feel about yourself (and it's important to have personal cheerleaders in your life too -- who also do not degrade you on the basis of your skin tone).

And now, for your question:

- I don't really have dark skin but no, I don't really get worried when someone comments on it. I prefer being tanned and when people tell me not to do that as they think fair is better, I ignore them. I think I look better when a more warm brown skin tone so that's what I'm gonna stick to.

- I wouldn't marry into a household where they constantly commented on my skin tone and my love didn't support me. Hearing constant negativity about yourself is NEVER a good thing so trying to live in an environment like that would be a big no from my side. And my future spouse doesn't have to love my skin tone, but if he doesn't mind hearing my insult from others, then I won't be happy and an unhappiness will lead to a bad marriage.

- No, like I said earlier, if someone comments on my skin constantly and my spouse doesn't say anything, I won't marry them/ into that household. For me, my spouse has to at least have my back. And if they can't have it during small situation, what's the guarantee they'll have it during big situation?

I have a medium skin tone but the biggest weakness is my pimple marks which are not leaving my face i am fed up of it

This topic is close to my heart ...

Firstly people talk. They call it well meaning, but frankly they are just mean. If you can look past what they are saying and look at who they are, it might lessen the effects of their words.

Next time someone says something mean about your looks, look at THEM.

1. How do they look? (More often you can roll your eyes and say "Dude, have You looked in a mirror recently? )😆

2. Are they important in your life ? (if they are then they can accepts some home truths in return from you; like how mean they are)

3. Does their opinion REALLY matter?

Look around you, do people enjoy talking and being with you? That means you are a lovely person. A good friend, a good sister and loving daughter.

Whether you look beautiful or fair or not, life goes on. Never let people dictate how you feel for the day. Find something you're good at and kick a** at it. Because we are more than how we look.

There is a pressure to look great and be noticed and be liked. Trust me when I say, how you speak and carry yourself is infinitely more important than looks.

I am medium toned girl who knew she wasn't much to look at. But I had enough like minded friends and had fun growing up, regardless of nosey parkers who had nothing better to do than make comments on other people.

I went through university focused on studying and having honest friendships. And someone liked me for me, and asked for my hand. He doesn't praise me to the skies or write sonnets about my "beauty" , but I know he loves me and I do him.

Be comfortable in your own skin. Find something you're good at and work on it. If you don't know what it is, then try new things to find out. The sooner you find it, the better you'll feel about yourself. And people's comments will cease to matter.

This turned into a lecture...😆... but girls' psyche is very important to me...

I never comment on serial forums but this is an interesting topic. People in India are obsessed with fairness. People literally skip health to buy fairness creams. I love beauty and make-up as a girl. but what annoys me the most that you cannot find any skincare cosmetics in stores nearly other than fairness products. Fairness is like dal roti to cosmetic companies and they have been feeding us this notion for years. In make-up you cannot find foundation, compact or concealer in darker tones. Even the darkest tone is light on my wheatish skin.

Even worse is the TV industry where nearly all actors irrespective of their gender are fair. They even cosmetically lighten up their skin. They show as if their no dark skin in our country. Airlines and hospitality industry does not hires dark skin for high paying front-line roles as they want pretty faces only. This was told to me in a job interview.

Men expect their brides to be fair and lovely and they themselves will be cousin to colossial kajal. One of my cousin was rejected by a boy for having dark skin in arrange marriage. I call such discriminating dark skin guys by this name. In marriage market its either looks or money works. The person may be a voldermort from inside but if is as fair as milk they anyone will marry him/her. i wish people see the real personality not looks.
