Is Karan Johar feeling a sense of deja vu? Shuddhi has once again been put on the backburner. Phew!

Frankly, we're losing track of how many times the film has been announced and then delayed.

The project was first announced with Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. Then Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's names did the rounds, but the duo chose Bajirao Mastani over Shuddhi.

Next, Salman Khan came on board only to opt out later. And finally, Karan announced Shuddhi with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

Interestingly, Varun and Alia chose Shuddhi over Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend, to be produced by Ekta Kapoor.

So, why is Shuddhi on hold now? You see, after the Karan Malhotra-directed Brothers didn't live up to expectations, buzz is that KJo (producer) is being a little cautious before putting him back in the saddle with an expensive film (Shuddhi).

We hear, Malhotra is now working on a fresh subject for KJo.

And what will Varun and Alia do in the meantime? Well, they will be shooting for another KJo production in that window - the Shashank Khaitan film. Why let dates go waste, right?
