Twitter has turned out to be the perfect podium for ardent fans of Indian Television Drama to express their views or in this case to express their disapproval regarding the course of the show. Yes, We are talking about Star Plus popular show Yeh Hai Moahabbatein produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms where fans have taken to Twitter, FB and other social media's by storm and honestly can you blame them?
Sure, this is the world of fiction, it's all unreal and done for entertainment sake but showing just about anything in the name of 'Drama' or by hiding behind the word 'Fiction' in order to keep the TRP's afloat and thus the money coming, does not seem to be the right way to go.
Star Plus lives by it's tagline 'Nayi Soch' but looks like when it actually comes to promoting the same they are a bit skeptical. Based on this finding which seems to be glaringly visible in Yeh Hai Mohababtein fans have resorted to tweeting and trending #RIPYHM with the hope that something positive will be achieved and the show that everybody has grown to love in the past 2 years will return to it's former glory and remain a unique one but in a more realistic way.
In an attempt to get the Channel/PH to pay attention fans and viewers of the show have taken to twitter with #RIPYHM a phrase that purely expresses how the current track aka the Surrogacy track of the show where Raman has given his consent to Shagun becoming the surrogate mother of his and Ishita's child without Ishita knowing about the same has become beyond unacceptable.
The track in it's entirety starting with Raman resorting to lying to Ishita and tricking her into signing the surrogacy papers to the very recent Raman singing 'Tera Mujhse Hai Pehla Ka' while his better half Ishita witnesses the same with tears in her eyes has evoked immense displeasure from the viewers and they have chosen Twitter to showcase the same.
Interestingly and rather innovatively the fans and viewers who took to Twitter and Facebook and other social media sites to express their dislike for the current track and raise their voice against the same has not only targeted the Channel, the Production House and cast/crew members in their tweets but they have also targeted the Title Sponsors @DaburIndia (Dabur), @Dove_IND (Dove), @PondsIndia (Ponds) in what seems to be the latest move to get their message across and to the people who has the power to make a change.
(Click on arrows to see slide-show of posters made by fans with regard to their mission.)Anybody who has watched the show irrespective of being a die-hard fan or not can see that a drama which right from the word 'GO' has been as brilliant and different as Yeh Hai Mohabbatein; which showcased several tracks of social relevance in the past is currently going against everything they have built by showing the current track which 'Not so subtly' taunts and mocks Ishita's inability to conceive a child thus paving way for a rather twisted solution where Shagun who is Raman's ex-wife has become the surrogate.
Dekha jaaye toh where is the Nayi Soch in this?
It's clear that fans and viewers who have watched the show since day 1, who still continue to do so don't want it to end. No, That is not the motive here. What they want is for a leading channel like that of Star Plus, one of the country's top most production house like Balaji Telefilms and Companies like Dove, Dabur and Ponds (All of who aim at woman empowerment, social awareness and progressiveness); all of who had a pivotal role in making YHM a top-rated, sensible, realistic, logical and one of a kind Hindi Drama to have some social responsibility; something which they seemed to have showcased in plenty when the show was being set-up and build but is diminishing with each passing day.
It is yet to be seen what will come of this situation but we sure hope that whatever happens reflects as a positive one on the show, the channel, the PH, the sponsors and last but not the least the fans.
