Part 8
"Kaajjal, kya hua hai." he asks with concern.
"wo, dard ho raha hai." Kaajjal says helplessly, "I can't walk." And before she could say another word, he lifts her up in his arms.
"yeh … yeh aap kya kar rahain hain? Kaajjal stammers, not expecting Dev to do this. "choriyay mujhay." She resists,
"Relax Kaajjal." Dev orders, "I have to take care of your wound and for that we need to find a place."
"nahi, utariyay mujhay," she wiggles again, making it difficult for Dev to walk.
"Stop it Kaajjal … for heavens sake. This is not the first time I am touching you." Dev says in an authoritative tone and Kaajjal falls silent. 'This is not the first time I am touching you!!!!' Dev's words echoes in her mind mindlessly, making her think hard what he meant. But this man was always a mystery for her; his words always left her speechless; his expressions always left her wondering.
Despite all this, she can see and feel her body reacting to his touch. He was carrying her as if he was the princess charming she had been waiting all her life. She closes her eyes and asks herself, 'is he the really the one for me?'
"yes …" Dev voice astounds her. For a moment she thought he answered her heart's question. She looks at him, dreamy and lost, "I think we found the place to rest." He is looking towards an enclosed shed and Kaajjal follows her gaze. (Jyoti darling, your favorite Tabela is here J). Dev opens the half open door and enters the shed. He puts her on a stack of grass and wheat and moves to light the fire. While he is busy lighting the fire, she holds her breath at a sudden exposure of some hazy flashes. She had seen this sight before, but where? Flashes of a man bent on the bon fire and trying to light it. She thinks hard, trying to figure out the difference between images and reality, but in vain. 'I have seen him before.' The images crossing her mind are very similar to what she is seeing right now. Dev was lighting the fire in the same style, same manner he had done in lonavala and her mind went confused. She shudders at the thought and his words comes back to haunt her, 'This is not the first time I am touching you!!!' Things are not making and sense and she tries to push them away.
Dev is done with the fire and turns towards her only to find her extremely upset. He can see those tension-filled lines etched on her beautiful face. His voice changes into a concern full expression, "kya baat hai Kaajjal? Why are you so upset?"
"vo … Papa aur bua bohat paraishan hoon gay." She says in a fearful and tensed voice, making Dev think about that lonavala night.
"Call them and tell them you are fine." Dev takes his cell from his pocket and hands it to her,
"Am I?" Kaajjal asks in a strange tone. Torn between trusting him or not. Stranded in the darkness of night, in a place like this, with a stranger, though he seemed her own. But she was worried.
Her strange expression of mistrust gives a hard blow to Dev. He couldn't believe his ears.
"What the hell do you mean by 'am I'?" he looks at her with shocked eyes. "Don't you trust me?"
"main aap ko itna nahi janti kay aap pay aitbaar karoon." She says in a quiet tone – as if every word she just said hurt her more then it hurt Dev. On the other hand, hearing this from Kaajjal makes Dev lose his sanity yet again. 'what in the world is wrong with her?' this was one question which was constantly haunting him since he met Kaajjal in Missouri again. He bends down and grabs Kaajjal from her shoulders,
"what is wrong with you Kaajjal …. Ghussa apni jagah, but how can you say you don't trust me …?" Dev shrugs her hard at this. "kuin kar rahi ho tum aisa….?" He looks fiercely in her eyes
"kya kar rahain hain aap .. choriyay mujhay.." Kaajjal struggles
"kaisay chor doon tumhain Kaajjal … kaisay …?" Dev says in a helpless tone, losing himself to her. "tumhara har lafz mujhay kantay ki tarah chubhta hai, bohat takleef hoti hai mujhay. Tum mujh say kya chahti ho Kaajjal. kay main tum say mafi mangoon. Ok fine …. I am sorry God damnit, I am sorry." He is shouting eagerly with hands still on her shoulders, shaking her, almost forgetting the cut on her head. it had already played its part again and she faints in his arms.
"Kaajjal … Kaajjal" Dev gets restless. O God, he had been wasting time fighting with her when she needed to be taken care of. He lays her on the stack and runs to grab some water from a small river flowing next to the shed.
He sprinkles some water on her face and she regains consciousness, only to find Dev bent on her. She tries to lift herself up and he supports her to sit. He band forward to look at the wound but she moves her head away. Dev looks at her with a grave seriousness,
"stop it Kaajjal and hold still. let me look at this wound. " Dev says in an authoritative tone and Kaajjal follows his command. Leaving herself in his safe hands, for no matter how hard she tried otherwise, she knew she was secure with him.
Very gently, Dev cleans her wound and the blood around it. He bends close and softly blows on her cut. His lips close to her forehead, his fingers touching her forehead very gently. The aroma of his delicious perfume made her weak in her knees, and her eyes rest on his neck – a nerve jumping slightly. She felt the urge of lifting her fingers and touching it, touching him, and losing herself in his arms … 'why doesn't he seem like a stranger? Why do I always feel happy and safe when I am with him? Why my own self refuses to listen to me when I am around him?' She is lost in her own questions when Dev takes his handkerchief and moves even more close to tie it around her forehead. It was as of she was in his arms … almost there and Kaajjal feels a strange sensation of living this moment. She wishes silently to actually feel his arms around her. She holds her breath while Dev ties the handkerchief. He moves back slightly, back enough to look in her eyes. But what he founds in them sends a shiver down his entire body. It was love. It was passion. It was trust. Above all, it was a look that said, I belong to you – please hold me.
With heavy breathing and haywire senses, they are lost in each other's magical eyes and passionate expressions. His princess was right there; her eyes were begging him to hold her and his last straw of control was shed. Keeping the spell of this magical moment, he slides his arms around her, slowly and gently. The moment his arms started to slide around her, realization struck Kaajjal that he was going to take her in his arms. And to he surprise, this is exactly what she wanted. His gesture was very very slow, giving Kaajjal enough time to stop him if she wants. He does not want to impose anything on her. To him her willingness and consent was foremost. But Kaajjal doesn't stop him, instead her heart anticipated the feeling of being in his arms. She just wanted to lose herself to his magic touch. She remembers that rainy night on the cliff when he saved her from falling and the fire that generated when they were in each other's arms.
His trail ends and she was in full circle of his warm embrace now. She felt she was in heaven; his gentle yet possessive touch made her heart jump like crazy. She knew he was the one, for his arms were promising her love and respect. Unintentionally her arms moved and slid around him – holding him close. Dev felt her arms around him and his heart pounded madly at her touch. She was his Kaajjal - the woman he had loved like crazy; her touch was sooooo familiar, soooo loving, sooooo passionate. His arms tightened around her - crushing her to him, as if he would die is she ever steps out of his embrace. Staying away from Kaajjal was the worst nightmare of his life and he wanted to wake up now; and never ever go back in it again. Kaajjal was in a deep spell, her arms tightened around him as well and she brings him closer to her. His arms were soooo known, as if she had been here before; as if she had lived this moment before; as if his essence was her own.
No one spoke for what seemed like an eternity. They just wanted to live in each other's arms. And this is exactly what was happening when Dev's cell rings bringing both of them back from this beautiful dream. They move away from each other and he picks his cell lying on the stack.
"hello," his voice was shaky, uncontrolled.
"Dev … anupam bol raha hoon. Kahan ho tum yar? yaad hai na aaj humhain dinner pay jana tha kuch business clients kay saath" Anupam says in one go and Dev remembers about the dinner.
"o God, I totally forgot." Dev closes his eyes, "but Anupam, there is a problem." And Dev explains the whole situation to him.
"tum ho kahan. Main aata hoon tumhain lainay." Anupam says,
"yar mujhay nahi maloom where are we? It seems like a jungle, and it's very dark. It cannot find my way around. Looks like we have to wait till morning before we can look around or you can come." Dev says and Kaajjal lifts her head at this. Her heart was already restless; she could not believe how she gave into this urge of being in his arms; how and why she reacted the way she did? What made her do this? what is the power that this man has on her? And above everything, she could still feel a part of her lost in his embrace. Though his arms were not around her anymore, but she could smell his beautiful aroma on her skin, feel his warmth on her body, and feel the softness of his shirt against her lips, where she had rested her head a few moments ago.
