One Black Coffee, Sugarless!
Milk Cafe, Los Angeles:
"One cheese sandwich and a black coffee with little half and half in it and sugarless and yeah extra cheese."
If the waiter was shocked, he hoped that he didn't show it. He was used to serve mad people who had absolutely weirdo likes. This person here wanted "cheese" sandwich and "sugarless, black" coffee. The first thought that crossed his mind was "gross", yet he couldn't refuse, could he?
Arnav cringed at the order, the girl opposite to him had placed. His distaste was clearly visible on his face. The waiter approached him just then.
"One glass of warm milk without sugar."
Milk? Khushi squeezed her eyes shut as the image of that white beverage going down her throat flashed in front of her. She shook her head as if erasing that image alone from her pool of beautiful memories. She looked at the fellow opposite to her with pure loathing. The waiter placed her order on her table, distracting her from her "milky" thoughts.
She took a bite of her sandwich and chewed it in satisfaction. She sighed taking a sip of the "black bitterness" as Arnav called it, only to spit it out. "What the?" Both of them cried in unison. Arnav looked at her in amusement. He smirked at her.
"If you can't handle the bitterness, then why order it?"
"Excuse me? Mind your own business." She then, turned towards the waiter with pure anger. "Didn't I ask you to get me a "sugarless" black coffee?" If looks could kill, the waiter would have been dead by then. Poor fellow, didn't know that a little sweetness could extract so much spice. She glared at him, while the waiter proceeded to clean the place. He mumbled an apology in return and promised to return with her "sugarless" bitterness.
"Bechara, kaamp raha hain (Poor fellow, he is shivering)", Arnav remarked casually.
"Agar tum soch rahe ho ki mujhe hindi pata nahi, tho, let me warn you, I do know it. So better keep your remarks to yourself. (If you think that I don't know Hindi, then let me warn you I do know it. So better keep your remarks to yourself.)" Arnav shrugged at her nonchalantly.
Arnav drank his "warm tasteless whiteness", as Khushi called it. He closed his eyes relishing the taste of his favorite. Ha what a way to start the day! While Khushi continued showering rude glances at the waiter, Arnav looked at him with pure joy dancing on his face. He looked at the two people, completely bewildered. Early in the morning, he never imagined his day to start this badly. He still cursed the person who wrote that "Scorpians will have an astounding day filled with happiness". At this rate, he just hoped that his day wouldn't be a total disaster. He served the young lady, a new cup of her beverage, she looked at him and the beverage as if assessing the quality of the liquid.
She gave a curt nod and proceeded to finally start her day with her addiction, only to have her Ma call her. She gave a frustrated look at the phone, before she answered it.
"Haan Ma. I do know that he is coming. I will be there at New York tomorrow. Don't worry. Bye."
Arnav looked at the girl who was very happily tasting her new cup of bitterness. With the extra cheese and black coffee, he just wished he wouldn't have to see more of this crazy girl.
Khushi looked at Arnav who was paying his bill. He looked perfectly alright, but she didn't know why he was stupid enough to have warm milk early in the morning. "Weird people, I say", she grumbled, not realising that it was coming from yet another weirdo.
Two days later at New York:
Khushi was waiting at Starbucks for the past half an hour to meet him. Yeah, It was him, since she forgot his name. She had already downed three cups of her addiction and as she was reaching for the fourth, she saw him. His eyes widened.
Red top, check.
Faded Jeans, check.
High ponytail, check.
Black earrings, check.
Small bindhi, check.
Nose pin, check.
Khushi Kumari Gupta, check!
Arnav Singh Raizada finally realized he was officially screwed. He had no way out. He had to meet the black cheesy girl now and how!
"You?"
"Yes, me, Miss Black Cheese oops Khushi Kumari Gupta."
"What? You are Arnav Singh Raizada? Of all people it had to be you?!"
"Unfortunately, yes."
"Ma'am your black coffee, sugarless." Arnav closed his eyes at that. He didn't know how much bitterness this girl could drink.
"So fifth cup of the day?", he teased her, only to have her glare at him. Taking a deep breath, she was about to lash out to him, when he spoke, "Let's forget our black cheesy first meet. We will start over afresh. What do you think?".
She sat their contemplating, when he forwarded his hand. "Promise me you won't make fun of my black coffee."
Suppressing the smile that threatened to break out, he replied, "Sure, if you promise not to make fun of my glass of warm milk". Both of them burst out laughing and their hands met for a handshake.
6 months later, Milk Cafe, Los Angeles:
Khushi sighed looking around. She was getting bored. She had been waiting to meet him, before the morning chaos started. She had been there for a long time. To be precise, for the past, one hour and 10 minutes. Her black coffee had gone cold, waiting for him. She called him, to receive the same answer "The number you are tying to reach, is currently not reachable". She hit the table in frustration. The waiter jumped in fear. Oh he didn't expect his day to start with the same weird girl. He just hoped his day won't go as disastrous.
"Ma'am your cheese sandwich with extra cheese."
Khushi ate her sandwich, completely lost in his thoughts. "The taste is different. I mean good different." She looked up only to find Arnav on his knees with a ring in his hand. Soon, his husky voice filled the Cafe.
Tumko chhu le jo hawaa
Usey chhoona chaahun main
I don't wanna go on
And make castles in the sand
Tu jo sang chale
Naa honge tanha raaste
I'm gonna love you
Like no one ever can
Ke kab tak main rahoon akele
You know I need you by my side
Ke kab tak main jeeyun akele
That one thing I have realized
If you hold my hand
- Badal jayegi meri duniya
If you hold my hand
- Toh mill jaayegi sabhi khushiyan
If you hold my hand
- Nikhar jayegi meri duniya
If you hold my hand
O baby I will never let you go
O.. You callin' out for me
You callin' out for me, O..
You got me on my knees, on my knees, O..
You callin' out for me
You callin' out for me o..
You got me on my knees for life.
Khushi was surprised, was an understatement. Her mouth had formed a big "O" and her eyes looked like saucers. "Oh my god Arnav. This was the best "cheese" sandwich, I have ever tasted. You are the best." If people around had thought that she would be shouting with happiness at having received such an astounding proposal, then they were totally wrong and mistaken. Her focus was on the sandwich. She was so happy that finally, her man will be the one to give her the best cheese sandwich in the world.
"Khushi, I am warning you, if you don't accept my proposal, I will make sure you do not get your cheese sandwich and black coffee, which will only add to your melancholy."
She ran into his waiting arms, only to be twirled around as he slipped the ring into her waiting fingers.
"I love you Arnav, you are all that I have."
"I love you too, my Black Cheese girl."

As you all would have guessed, this is for Cheesemad (Cheenu / Softie). We met at melancholy, which was supposed to be sadness. But for the first time in history, we both made it Happiness. Then we traveled together for the last part of Piya Bawaruchi. Chaos strengthened our bond and now Memories are being created, all thanks to you! I know I am pretty early, but your crazy love for black coffee and cheese sandwich, made me write this for you and only you! I know we haven't known each other for long, but still we are united by our passion to talk, speak and chat. You encouraged me during my times of nervousness (Friday Funda), made me laugh and feel so great about myself. I just wish you get all the happiness you deserve and keep loving me as always. I hope the coming October 15, will make your life bigger and better and reduce your college stuff a little. Arreh we can get early updates na? So, anyhow I hope you like this and a very very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. I love you, bas!
