Ch 4~Koshish~{Trial}Khushi shifted in her sleep, feeling pain arise in her lower body. She felt weak, both mentally and physically. The moment Arnav had told her that he would take away her pain and give her happiness, she had lost her consciousness; but his words echoed in her ears. The reason why he was doing this, helping her, was completely unknown for her. Not that she didn't wanted this, but a part of her said that this was just a delusion and the moment she comes out of this, she would be again under the inevitable trap of her husband. She opened her eyes slowly, looking around the room in exhaustion. She saw Arnav sitting over the recliner, working on his laptop. The broken mirror mess was cleared out and fresh air from the poolside filled the room.Arnav had seen Khushi get up and hence ordered the maid to get her food.Just when he was about to move towards the bed after keeping the laptop aside, his phone rang, flashing his sister's name."Di?" He picked up the phone and glanced at Khushi, before moving out of the room. The maid served Khushi food, which she ate more easily than the first time, as hunger made her feel tired and weak. "Di I am busy in something," he sighed as he heard his sister's chiding."Busy in what, Arnav? You haven't come home since two damn days! Where are you?" He heard her question him, feeling helpless of not able to answer what kept him busy."Di I will come tonight, okay?" He assured her, hanging up the call after asking about his niece and some other stuff.*"Call my wife! She will tell you that I am not what this f*cking man is saying!" Shyam screamed on top of his lungs, struggling to free himself from the tight hold of the police constables in the court of law; after the man, who had registered a complaint against him, spoke about his rude behaviour with everyone at the drinking bar."Objection, milord. His wife is also a victim of his cruelty. He should also be charged with marital rape," the police inspector spoke up, while the magistrate noted down the point in his record book."The court will announce its decision after a break of thirty minutes," the magistrate got up and left, while Shyam still struggled angrily."This is all because of that b*tch! She complained against me? She complained against her husband's love? Just wait, Khushi. Wait for me to get out of this jail and I will teach you how to be a nice wife!" He angrily spoke to himself, his nerves getting filled with rage, but he was not able to do anything because of the handcuffs in his hands. He abused her badly, wished all bad things for her; least did he knew about her shield, which would cover her against all his bad actions.*Arnav stared at Khushi in complete awe as she lightly touched the rose flowers with her delicate fingers, moving her hands from flower to flower, a glint of relaxation shadowing her face gradually but she didn't smile, for not even a bit of time. He, with much insistence, had brought her to the small garden in the poolside and he was glad that he didn't get to regret his decision. He stood quite far away from her, just to let her enjoy her own time and not feel any kind of disturbance. She moved about to each pot of roses, giving her own special time to each flower, just like a girl wishes to be treated; with a gaze which isn't filled with lust, a touch which isn't filled with harshness and a mind which isn't filled with deceitful thoughts.Seeing her completely lost in her actions, Arnav slowly walked out of the poolside to the kitchen and came back with two cups of coffee. He folded his trousers up to his knees and sat down near the pool, dipping his legs in the shimmering water. She turned and looked at him disturbing the water with his feet and admiring the sky growing with stars. Feeling it to be a nice thing, she too folded her salwar slightly and took a place beneath him. With a gentle push, he moved the tray of cups between both of them, continuing to stare at the sky and the reflection of moon glistening in the pool's water."Thanks" she softly hummed, taking the cup of coffee from the tray, while he picked up the one left. He refrained from speaking anything, wanting her to start the conversation this time. Minutes passed, but they didn't share a word. Nocturnal insects came into action after day's sleep, but they too failed to abolish the silence between them. Not able to resist, Khushi let the words of her heart flow through her mouth, "Why are you doing this?""What?" He looked at her with more of a confused countenance, not expecting her to question something."Why are you helping me?" Her voice raised from just whispers, and she too turned to look at him.His eyes shined with a thin film of tear, but didn't let his tears flow. He had anticipated this question one day or the other, yet he was not prepared with the answer. Gulping slightly and looking into her honey coloured orbs, he slowly said, "Because I respect your feelings. Everyone deserves happiness.."He closed his eyes in frustration at the choice of his own words and got up from his seated position. She continued to stare at the pool and felt him leave the poolside and then the room.Hot tears streamed down her cheeks, as she felt so heavy at heart. The comfort her husband vowed to provide her with, some other person is providing it, who in return just wants her happiness.*"Di I am full, stop now," Arnav smiled at his sister, Anjali, who was going on feeding him food when he came home after two days."This all compensates for the two complete days!" Varun, his brother in law, told him, making Anjali hit his arm playfully and both the men burst into laughter. His Anjali Di was his world and he loved her more than anyone in his life. After their mother's death, it was she who protected him in her love filled arms, while he in turn became a man at the age of just fourteen years to work, for his Di, for himself, and for the world that left no chance to let them down. He became successful with his own hard work and his success screamed his name right in the ears of people who just wished bad for them. After talking a bit about random things and making sure that his Di knew nothing about Khushi, Arnav made his way to his niece, Mish's bedroom where she was sleeping peacefully. He changed into some light comfortable clothes and slipped into the covers beside Mish. His eyes refused to show any sign of sleep, so he just stared at the ceiling for endless hours. The same was the case with Khushi on the other side. She was fed food by the maid and she tried to get some sleep, but something nudged her mind time and again. She felt restless with him not around. His aura had given her a slight amount of strength and she felt the urge to at least try to get out of the negative setup of her mind.*The next morning, Arnav readied himself and was on the breakfast table, looking over Mish while see made faces while having milk. He smiled adorably, and munched on the toast in his plate when his phone rang."Yes Mr. Pandey," he answered the call from the police inspector."Mr. Raizada, Shyam Manohar Jha is arrested for a time period of eight months," the inspector spoke curtly and a look of satisfaction covered Arnav's face."Thanks for the information," he half-smiled and cut the call. His brows straightened up and a small smile played on his lips, while he finished his breakfast."Mish, would you like an outing with Mamu after school?" He cutely pulled his niece's chubby cheeks, while she nodded frantically."Mish? Your homework?" Anjali glared at her daughter, who made a puppy face and pouted her lips."Tomorrow is Saturday, Di. She has an off from school, so she can complete her work tomorrow.." Arnav, as always, spoke in Mish's favour and Varun agreed."Papa and Mamu are the bestt!" Mish got up from her chair and went up to her father, hugging and kissing him over his cheek while Anjali looked at her with raised eyebrows, hiding her smile. "But my mumma is super-best!" She did the same thing thing with Anjali and all the three elders laughed at her cuteness.Likes and comments would be loved :) -Thanks for reading- Edited by -SanjanaSobti- - 10 years ago
