After listening to Poonam's semi-classical song--- kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya-- Pt. Jasraj said, Poonam's voice is really good for classical singing and if she wishes, she can become a good classical vocalist. I think Poonam should consider that seriously as an option. The reasons being:
1. There will be 6 to 8 mega-finalists that the reality shows would throw out every 2 years. Is there enough work for these folks in the films music industry today? Will Poonam be able to compete with established singers first and these reality show mega-finalists?
2. Reality show singers are no where near the established singers of today. Why would any MD prefer these singers over Sonu/ Shaan/ Kunal/ Kailash/ KK/ Sukhwinder/ Shreya/ Sunidhi/ Richa and others. The established singers have enough time to meet the industry's demand and then spend 4 months abroad every year. And they are going to be around, at least, for next 25 years!
3. MDs and film producers/directors would like to see their music on the top charts. They will pay and get the top singers for that and not select the new comers just because they cost less.
4. Only handful singers of SRGMP were able to taste success in the film industry. Kunal/Shreya/Sunidhi are rare exceptions. Singers who won multiple SRGMP mega contests in the past like Ronkini Gupta, Hrishikesh Ranade, Arpita Mukherjee, Rahul Saxena, Debojit Saha are not seen anywhere today. Nhira, the most promising singer of C2005, has not got a single solo song yet (babuji dhire chalana is not an original). It took 10 years for Parthiv Gohil to get a real break.
5. Singers like Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota, Talat Azeez, Shubha Mudgal were able to make a good name/money for themselves without being primarily involved with film music.
6. There are many young classical vocalists today who made name/money for themselves. Shruti Sadolikar, Aarati Anklikar are some of women vocalists. Their names may not be known as much but still they are doing better in their field than Ronkinis and Arpitas whose names have faded with time.
7. The second option for these reality show singers is stages shows/tours aboard. With the family situation that Poonam is in, it is not a good options for her. Also, after a while one gets fade up with the stage shows, singing the same old songs again and again.
8. Pt. Jasraj was impressed with Poonam's voice. He has a music academy. If he gets a good guru for Poonam, she can get out of the film industry rat race and instead of singing cheap item songs, gets into something pure and real Indian music. It will be more satisfying for her than the kind of music that is churned out by film industry.
9. With excellent guru and blessings of Panditji, Poonam will be much better placed in alternative music career than the scores of past SRGMP/other reality singers who are fast fading away from people's memory.
