Meher was sitting in the canteen sipping on her black coffee, while reading a book. She felt someone had taken a seat beside her but she didn't bother looking up to see who it was.
Setting her mug down, she turned the page of her novel. She was about to reach the end of the chapter and she was intrigued by how more questions were arising.
"Yuck!" Meher looked up and stilled as she recognized that irritating voice.
Tilting her eyes but not her head, her worst fear was proven true.
It was none other than Abeer.
Drinking coffee.
Her coffee.
"How can you drink this?" Abeer asked, putting the mug down with a disgusted look on his face.
He picked up a pastry that was sitting in front of her and ate it.
He ate the last piece of pastry.
Her last piece of pastry.
Meher could feel a spasm flow through her jaw.
"Now that's better." He said gulping down the last morsel of cream-filled goodness.
He licked his fingers and looked at her.
"You should be sweet like the pastry Meher. Not bitter like your coffee."
She simply glared at him.
Abeer looked around at his surroundings then touched his face.
"What, is there something on my face?" He took Meher's phone and began inspecting his face in the reflection of the screen.
Seeing nothing, he put the phone down and saw Meher's eye twitching.
"Meher, are you okay?" He asked, putting his hand on her shoulder in concern.
Upon his touch, Meher started shaking in silent anger. Not wanting to make a scene, she focused all her attention and energy into her actions. She closed her book, put it in her bag, took her phone and left the table.
"Arre, Meher!" Abeer called out.
He was about to get up to follow her when the waiter came asking for the bill to be paid.
"Kya yaar." Abeer whined pulling out his wallet.
