All three performances showed the ladies in excellent light.

Datto - moved me the most. I really wanted to jump out of my seat in the dark theatre and hug her when she breakdowns secretly on her wedding day. I still can't get the scene out of my mind - haunting background score with her AUTHENTIC crying. Her character connected with the audience and made them love her despite not being the "conventional" looker.

She was a very able, girl next door! I want a- sequel just to see Datto happy... and it should be titled "DATTO" - a brand name now ⭐️

All three were amazing in their roles honestly.

I liked TWMR and NH10 more than Piku..so I'll be biased and for me, it's a tie between Kangana as Datto and Anushka as Meera. Meera's character itself is so kickass and it has a graph ranging from absolute helplessness, desperation to built up aggression. It sent chills down my spine. I was completely blown away! I could feel everything Meera was feeling at every point. Be it disgust, shock or her anger. Anu deserves all the praise for this one.

Datto, I have honestly praised her a lot in this forum. 😆Kangana's body language, dilaogue delivery and the sensitivity with which she portrayed the character was amazing. Very simple yet very beautiful.

Even Deepika was very good as Piku, if not for her character and acting, I would have got annoyed by many things in the movie. She was amazing in some scenes, but somehow I couldn't enjoy the movie much , so the connect I have with this character is lesser than the other two even if her charecter is relatable. 😛

Anyway, In really happy the we have had some awesomely written female roles this year. 😃

U just spoke everything I wanted to share abt Datto and Kangs performance as Datto.. However her making Tanu likeable despite her flaws is my reason why she tops the list this year.. Like u said, Datto is very relatable, able, girl next door character which instantly make anyone root for her.. I love that she had self respect for herself that even if she is losing Manu in the end, she refuse to marry someone who thinks she is a rebound.. On other hand, Tanu is crazy, she is obnoxious and unreasonable most of the times and mostly a spoiled brat.. However she made me feel for her in the last half hour of the film.. Goes to show what an amazing talent this girl is.. Deepika in PIKU was equally amazing as well, a very understated relatable performance.. Minus the somewhat boring screenplay, the film was a good watch and especially Deepika was a surprise act because she managed to hold her own against Ab Snr and Irfan Khan.. I just wish both would stop their offscreen drama and let their work do the talking...

I forgot to mention Anushka.. Well I have to admit I didnt fancy her performance as Meera much as compared to Kangs and Deepu.. It was average for me, maybe because the character wasnt as relatable as Datto or Piku.. Same time, I feel she over acted in certain scenes.. Definitely not the kind that can compete equally with the likes of Datto and Piku.. Kangs and Deepu are my top two this year.. And who edges out who, we will get to know once KB and BM releases.. Have a strong feeling DP will edge out Kangs with BM and Tamasha.. Plus KB doesnt seem that promising, is as average as Shaandaar.. I could be wrong, idk.. Ill be fine if either of them wins..

Agree with your Tanu assessment as well. What is remarkable is that Kangana's portrayal of Tanu in 2015 version is several notches higher than the 2011 version. From a plot wise, it works well too because it shows the person matured in 5 years. Tanu, despite being shallow, was vulnerable. Truly this experience shook her... in that brilliant Ja Ja Re Bewafa scene.. where she puts on make up, hair and imitates the buck teeth. what an outstanding drunk walk by a heroine in cinema !!! 👏 Kangana is really a sought after actress in the industry.

DEEPIKA (Piku) - I really liked her in this film. She looked gorgeous with those kohl eyes, in simple make-up look. My favorite scene was with her and Irrfan on the banks of Ganges (i think it was after her dad dies?). She displayed her character's maturity so realistically.
Anushka (NH10) - Intense movie but what a day in the life of Meera. She displayed her transformation from scared to utlimately fearless by dawn well. Bravo!!

I'm a sucker for realistic portrayals 😳

Not just that.. That scene when she drinks and dances in baaraati(is that how u spell?), she goes from happily drunk to suddenly sober, angry and sad in few seconds.. That was indeed my fav and that little edge over others.. I also loved the Mat Ja Re and Ghani Bawri sequence.. She was indeed exceptional.. And I agree with u.. There was a difference in Tanu of 2011 film and this one.. But that one Ill give credits to Rai and Sharma.. They are the one who shaped the character that way..
