The way I see it. Bahubali was sent to war, Devasena was accused of adultery. But Siva Gami realised her mistake and took Mahendra Bahubali and ran away. Devasena didn't get the chance.

I thought he was just badmouthing her to an extent so that mahendra got furious like anything.

Besides,amarendra bahubali is the hero and he needs to have a proper love story and by the way,bhallaladeva had clearly said that devasena REJECTED him and chose bahu and bahu only (literally translating the dialogue in the dubbed version here to English,that's the meaning.

It is a possibility!

It could have one of Bhalla's trick to get rid of Amarendra to get the throne.. Using Sivagami's anger against Amarendra he could have managed Amarendras's death.. But Sivagami could have got alert and saved Mahendra but being late, Devasena could have got caught
