Hello to all the lovely people out here
I would like to let you know that this post is not meant to defend Shreya or her past actions or her current behavior or the way in which she will be portrayed in the coming episodes.
I know a lot of people are disappointed with the sudden turn in her character and I can completely understand what makes them feel so.
Right from the start she had been portrayed as a person with narcissistic traits (and that does not imply that she is suffering from clinical narcissistic personality disorder). Is it something unreal? Definitely not! Haven't we seen a significant shift towards lyrics that reflect narcissism where "I" and "me" appear more often "we" and "us" and hostility (change from positive to angry words and emotions)?
There is clear cut evidence that we are indeed facing a narcissism epidemic and there are various factors (such as lifestyle, self-esteem movement, existing cut-throat competition, rise in individualism etc.) that are contributing to this. (I won't get into the details of it but plenty is available over the internet if you are interested in reading about this).
The damaging aspect of narcissism is constant hunger for being admired; a sense of entitlement; a sense of superiority; a willingness to exploit; a lack of empathy; and, perhaps most importantly of all, a retaliatory aggression when the inflated ego is threatened (and the precap showed us this).
Now what I am going to say is not my generalized view but what research suggests. We know that Shreya belonged to a very affluent family and research suggest that rich are apparently more self-absorbed (would like to repeat again that I am not making a generalized statement). Rich people don't see selfishness and narcissism as negative traits. Rather they make no secret of the fact that they want to make themselves happy before considering anyone else. Probably it's her upbringing that misguided her self-esteem and thinking about self' thus turning into what she is today. So, in whole this is her perspective of looking at life which she has learnt through her surrounding and experience (so it's just a personality flaw in Shreya's case and not a mental illness - i.e. adaptive narcissism).
I was not too sure about the bet' thing that had been revealed to us but now when I think it might be true somewhere that the bet was involved but I also believe that she was attracted to Kabir back then. Or for once let us assume she loved him but surely her love was not based on any core connection but was based on functionality. She could never understand Kabir because ability to see other people at a deeper level requires the ability to see ourselves at a deeper level which she lacked entirely.
I would now like to refrain myself from speculating about why she wants Kabir back in her life or if there is something about the past that we still are unaware of.
But, before ending this post I would like to say that what we are being shown is a reality (maybe the execution is a bit OTT in the precap but it was needed to clearly show her inflated ego) and that I have full faith that CVs won't exploit Shreya's character as a typical Hindi serial vamp (because they have built her character with extreme attention and care). Expecting sensible content in the upcoming episodes as well just like the previous ones.
PS: Just to bring positivity to my post I would like to bring to your notice that narcissistic traits can be productive as well. In fact people with narcissistic traits are seen as good leaders. There is a book by Michael Maccoby which is based on productive narcissism that highlights Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs and others as productive narcissist. Thus narcissism isn't that scary and pretty common in general population!!
