Imagine if you tried to explain rugby to someone who had never heard of the sport before - and then they made a film about it.

Judging by this clip, that exact thing has happened to a Bollywood producer.

Tell someone from India who has seen his film that you're a rugby fan, and they may consider you to be some sort of crazed blood-thirsty masochist.

Incoming! One of Bollywood's iron men flies in for a tackle

Highlights from the hit Bollywood feature Sye have gone viral after a social media user rediscovered the footage and posted it on YouTube.

The film gives worrying and hilarious insight the way rugby is perceived in some quarters, reports Wales Online.

Action scenes show some of the most violent, eye-watering tackles ever seen on the field of play, including plenty of stamping and the odd boot to the face.

Danger: Bollywood are unlikely to want to take up the sport after seeing some of Sye

The film, from 2004, follows Prudhvi and Shashank, leaders of two warring student groups with a love of rugby in a Hyderabad college.

However, when a local mafia leader buys their beloved sports field they put their differences aside to fight a united cause of winning back the land.

How it never won an Oscar is a mystery. 😲😲😲
