"I don't have faith in Pakistan, generally. Neither do I understand what their thought processes are," Saif has said.

Saif Ali Khan recently aired his frustrations about the controversy that's plaguing his upcoming film Phantom, which revolves around the tragic November 26 Mumbai attacks at the Taj Hotel.

The film was dragged into court last week as Jamaatud Dawa's (JuD) Hafiz Saeed petitioned the Lahore High Court to ban it in Pakistan, saying it posed a threat to his life and was Indian propaganda meant to hurt Pakistan's image.

In an interview with DNAIndia the actor said: "I don't have faith in Pakistan, generally. Neither do I understand what their thought processes are. I have no problems against Pakistan and I won't make a film that's against the country. But now they have banned the film. We have always shared a very complicated relationship. If you tell uncomfortable truths, films gets banned. We keep banning each other's films."

He went on to assert that even if the film was banned in Pakistan, people would watch it anyway: "The irony is that everybody is going to watch it anyway on pirated DVDs. That's what happens a lot in Pakistan."

Phantom was bound to stir things up, but many were hoping it would go the way ofBajrangi Bhaijaan, which, after much back-and-forth, finally made it to theatres in Pakistan and did roaring business. Commenting on this, Saif said: "I think the majority of the population is peace-loving, be it in India or Pakistan. The enormous success of Bajrangi Bhaijaanshows that most people would like a Utopian situation."

In a separate interview with The Times of India, Phantom director Kabir Khan too expressed his frustration about the films fate in Pakistan. "The film is in no way anti-Pakistan," he said. "As a writer-director, it is against my DNA to do something like that and my body of work speaks for what my position internationally has always been. If I was trying to make anti-Pakistan films, there would be no Ek Tha Tiger, no Kabul Express, no New York and mostly no Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

This is the same article that was posted 3 days ago and there has been more than enough discussions/argument regarding it. Was there really a need to post the same article again? It'll only invite another round of pointless India Vs Pakistan debate. 😵

It became a issue coz it looks like pak people are supporting hafiz saeed. Its surprising to see a wanted terrorist getting vip treatment in pakistani courts. That was the reason saif reacted, and then pakistani celebs n public too reacted strongly on saifs statement. N its looking as if pak people r supporting a wanted terrorist hafiz saeed.

Coz Phantom was suppose to do some 300 Crs plus business in Pakistan, but one of the most respected Nobel Price for peace winner- Hafeez Mohammad Saeed filed a petition in court and court just banned the movie.

There r all also some very PHAMOUS paki celebrities asking India abt its secularism based on Saif's comments.

Thats the whole problem. . 😲

If Phantom is flop. Hafiz's followers will laugh.

If its hit, Ppl against terrorsim will laugh.

A)Its a country's free choice whether they want to ban or not a flick be it at the request of a terrorist or otherwise.

B) Why is Saif after the fact that the film release in Pakistan ...its realeasing in India and rest of the world why does a Pak release matter so much to him , does he think the film will make Hafiz Saeed think and surrender or does he think the movie will bring about a change in terrorism and its approach ...if he thinks either way then he is being delusional .

C)Most films around terrorism or Ind vs Pak theme have not released in Pak so why the hulla now ..publicity stunt much ?

D) Some of the statements coming out from Pak in response to Saif are even worse than what Saif started with ..and instead of people condeming the nonsense certain pak celebrities are spreading people are liking and sharing their nonsense only strengthening the generalization Saif started with . Two wrongs do not make a right and either side should get that but neither will and there is an underlying difference between Freedom of Speech and venomous hatred.

And If Saif has no faith in pakistan why is he still stuck up on Pakistan ..itna bhaav de hi kyun raha hai and if for pak actors India and Indians are such a thorn then they should not come and work in India & India shudnt welcome them either ..Simple.

Can the movie release and this nonsense end !

Hafeez Saeed is the reason the film got banned. He filed a plea in the court to ban the film citing the reason of his own safety concern.

Banning a movie on plea of a wanted guy and letting him roam freely in open to spread hate for other country. Does that make sense to you. And saif said he lost faith in Pakistan coz of the way his judicial system works were a wanted guy is left openly n a film is banned without even watching it.
