OS- PATCHING UP
"Choose between the two... Either me or Kabir" tears tickled down Ananya's eyes as she remembered the last conversation between her and her mother... Sitting on her bed, Ananya hid her face in the pillow next to hers; Kabir's pillow... She had tried umpteen number of times trying to talk to her mother that fateful night, when she had returned home late drenched in the romantic rain... Her mother kept the soul sucking choice before her to choose between the two people she would have given her life for... No reasoning, no excuse, nothing was heard by her mother; she never opened the door least to talk to her daughter... Ananya sat by the door step of her mother's room until the wee hours of the morning, when tiered she stood up from there, walked to her room, picked up a suitcase, and started packing things... May be she had chosen that night... She had made her choice... She quietly walked out of her mother's flat, took a cab, and half an hour past, she pressed the call bell of Kabir's apartment... She had to press it twice; maybe he was in deep sleep... But two rings and his groggy voice from behind the doors were heard-"Coming"... He must have stood at the door to look through the peep hole to see who is here at his home at 5am... But it took him just a millisecond to recognise who it is, and the door was immediately wide open... His eyes held worry- "Ananya tum? Iss waqt? Sab theek toh hai? Tum kahin jaa rahi ho?" He fired questions one after the other in worry, and the last one were for seeing the suitcase being rolled inside his flat... He closed the door behind and rushed seeing her eyes swollen red, and her face totally tired... She plopped down on the nearby sofa, and tears ticked down her eyes... "Ananya kuch bataao please baat kya hai? Tum itni subah-subah... And tum ro kyu rahi ho? Baat kya hai?" Kabir sat next to Ananya, trying to know what has been disturbing her... Ananya wiped her tears only to have the fresh lot flow immediately... She began telling him about the entire conversation between her and her mother, and her finally leaving her house and come... Kabir was shocked... He could never expect Ananya to take such a huge step, suddenly leaving behind her little family behind for him- "Ananya, ghar chodhne se pehle ek baar mujhse baat toh kar leti..." Kabir tried to explain, but was cut short by now a miffed Ananya- "Kyu? Itni jaldi bojh ho gayi hu main aap par? Reh nahi sakti aapke ghar mein?" Her tears suddenly dried up seeing the man not ready to take her in his life... But Kabir immediately corrected her- "Nahi Ananya... Mera wo matlab nahi tha... Mera ghar kya, meri saari zindagi tumhari hai, tum abhi kya humesha ke liye mere paas aa jaao... Nothing can make me happier, but Ananya didn't we promise before your mother that hum iss rishte ko unke aashirwaad se hi aagey leke jaayenge... Agar unhone tumse koi aisi baat kahi thi, toh you should have called me, main dauda-dauda aa jaata, unko samjhaata... Ananya, all your mother has you and Armaan... She has given up her entire life for you both... Unhe zindagi ke iss waqt par tum akela aise kaise chodh sakti ho?"... Ananya tried to reason- "Par kisi na kisi din toh mujhe jaana hi tha na? Some day or the other I had to get married anyway, tab bhi toh maa ko Armaan ke saath akele hi rehna tha na!" "Haan Ananya! I know, lekin how are you going to support your family financially now? I mean armaan's education, and daily needs?" Kabir wanted to ensure first... Ananya sighed- "My bank automatically transfers some part of my salary into maa's account every month... Need not worry about that..." Kabir sighed in a bit of relief... Atleast she hasn't left her family behind in miseries... But Ananya was still agitated and she urgently asked- "Kabir, will you marry me?"... Kabir was taken aback with the quick question... He wasn't thinking of running away from commitment, but this question came out of the blue... His silence for a few seconds made Ananya dubious, and she asked tentatively- "Kabir don't you want to commit...? I'm really sorry... I don't want to push you to marrying me in such a hurry like Shreya did... I'm so sorry... I won't pressurise you..." tears of slight embarrassment were forming in her eyes... Kabir immediately held her shoulders- "Ananya! Don't you ever compare yourself with Shreya... I love you to the core of my heart, and will want you to be with me forever... I also understand what it is in the society for an unmarried girl to live with some guy in his house... And will never want any fingers pointing at you... I certainly want to marry you Ananya, the thing is I hadn't thought it coming this way..." he wiped the tears of embarrassment that had formed in her eyes a moment back, that were flowing because of the numbers of emotions playing turmoil to her senses... He continued again- "Ananya, I think we should go to your mother in the morning and talk... Ho sakta hai wo maan jaayein? Phir hum unke saamne hi shaadi kar lenge..." Kabir tried to rub the positivity on her, just the way she did always... But to his dismay, Ananya shook her head in negative- "Aap maa ke paas nahi jaayenge Kabir... Jo hoga baad mein dekhnege... Bas I want to get married to you at the earliest... Not for the society, not for maa, not for any thought people may have... Just for us... For you and me... To be each others as soon as possible... Bas..." her stubbornness made Kabir not to argue anymore... He nodded his head... And then spoke- "Ananya, you can have the guest room for now... just go and sleep, have some rest... It seems you haven't slept the entire night... By morning, I'll make some arrangements for the marriage, at least in some temple; will see how long it will take for the formal court marriage to be conducted..."... Ananya nodded her head, and wheeled her suitcase to the guest room directed by Kabir, and Kabir plopped back on the sofa... He picked his phone up and called Laxman and Tarini in a conference call, and told all the incidents, and asked help for the arrangements for the marriage asap... Tarini immediately took up to arrange the marriage in the nearby temple, first thing in the morning, and He and Ananya should be there by 8 am... Laxman took up to reach their lawyer friend in the morning itself with Kabir and Ananya's documents, and trying his full reach to get the court marriage the same day itself...
Kabir called at KKN informing Ananya and his leave; and were ready for their marriage... Kabir wore a cream coloured pajaama-kurta, and Ananya wore a blue salwaar-kameez, the only Indian dress she had in her bag, and went to the temple as directed by Tarini... The ceremony was held in a completely private affair, with just Tarini, Anuraag and Laxman from Kabir's side and Ronnie and Richa came the last minute on the promise of not telling anybody else, becoming the witnesses at the ceremony... By afternoon, the lawyer had arranged for the court marriage too, and with the marriage certificate by the temple authority, the two of them signed the marriage deed, becoming each other's forever...

Ananya's train of thoughts took a hold, as she stifled another hiccupping cry in the pillow, hearing somebody in the room... She immediately wiped her tears... Kabir was looking at her with pained expressions... It has been more than a month of their marriage now, the entire office knew about their marriage; they themselves had declared that... Shreya; though was shocked seeing them officially married, but acted normally... But Ananya after knowing from Ronnie and Richa that her mother met Shreya that day, and she was the one who had feed her with such stories, Kabir explained to Ananya, why he always asked her to beware of the lady Shreya is... Except for the professional talks, Ananya had started completely avoiding her, and she and Kabir were saving their days with grace, not getting entangled in any situation with Shreya...
The days they thought they were setting in into the new lives that this Sunday Kabir and Ananya bumped into Anita; Ananya's mother, in the grocery store, where Ananya with help of Kabir was learning the art of running the house like the mistress, and there her mother stood glaring at her daughter... Ananya stood rooted to the spot seeing her mother, and her sindoor and mangalsutra as if glaring back at her mother told the choice she made... Her mother just stared at her for a few seconds, and Ananya couldn't help but tried to smile at her mother; but just then Anita ji walked off from there pulling her son Armaan along and there Ananya stood tears again forming in her eyes... And from that moment on, Ananya was quietly crying coming back to their home, hiding her face in Kabir's pillow... Kabir walked to her side, and pulled her to look at him... Her face had turned red crying since then... He wiped the tears and spoke- "Ananya, tum jaake apni maa se baat kyu nahi kar leti? Aakhir sach toh sach hota hai na, there's no big deal explaining her the truth of my story, with evidences; main unhe samjha sakta hoon, she would believe all Shreya told her was a fake story... Sab theek ho jaayega, phir tum kyu nahi baat karti Ananya?" "Kis mooh se jaau unke paas? Kya kahungi? Ke I chose you over her?" "Ananya, I know, it takes a great deal to stand at this point... But don't you think she needs to know? Don't you think you should atleast make sure that your mother is at peace after knowing her daughter is not with an absolutely wrong guy? Ananya baat meri nahi hai, mujhe na kal iss baat ka farq pada hai ke log mere baare mein kya opinion rakhte hain, aur na aaj padta hai... But it does affect my world, your world, if our families think wrong... Sach bataana tumhara kaam hai, humein apnana ya na apnana unka kaam hai... You can atleast fulfil your responsibility... Isn't it?" Kabir tried explaining Ananya... She shook her head in affirmation... It's time to patch up...!
