In an effort to increase forum activity, I am analyzing some characters. Please note this is about Tapu the character and not Bhavya Gandhi the actor. I or you may like the actor Bhavya a lot or dislike him, But here we just discuss the character TAPU
When the character was born :
In the beginning of the show Tapu was shown as naughty, a little weak in studies, troublemaker for his father kind of guy. According to me, that was the best characterization because it brought out Jethalal's frustrations and created lots of fun. They also showed him having nice human caring elements when Tapu shaved off his head for a friend. The friendship between him and Sonu was also intriguing with Bhide doubting him all the time.
The growth of the character :
But after this the makers got carried away and started showing him as a hero material who could do no wrong, who was over smart for his age and did things beyond his age like taking care of decorations alone without adult help or helping slum children in studies, which was unrealistic. He became contradictory sometimes too good and sometimes his old self.
I personally started disliking him because he was too much in your face.
What it is right now :
The best thing Asit Modi has done in the show is to show Tapu and his friends in their right age because it was becoming impossible to watch them as school kids. The idea to show them in college has opened a great opportunity to bring some freshness in the show. They can show the insecurities of the teens, the infatuations of Tapu, Sonu with other teens or even their dreams and their steady progress to achieve them. But here too on the first day they made Tapu sena as heros. Their intention was good that every person has to overcome the obstacle in life by believing in yourself. But they can also show some doubts in their minds or some moments of worries for them. It would become so much believable then.
What could have been:
Why the obsession to show Tapu as an all rounder ? They show Tapu as smart, good looking, well dressed etc etc. No other kid takes panga with him. He is a good cricket player, he is caring towards his family. He is aware of social issues and happily contributes there. and now he is shown good in studies too.
In My opinion , the son of uneducated businessman suddenly topping in studies is hard to digest. If they had shown him Weaker in studies but a street smart kid with great business sense like his father, that would be so much interesting ! That would always keep Bhide and Tapu relationship a little tense and also create some fun situations with Jetha. Overall keep Tapu a little grounded and not just another hero. Show him doubting his abilities in college and facing what a 16 year old faces in real life.
